The 2024 season was overshadowed by numerous problems and controversies, including the discontinuation of the Iowa Rampage franchise, numerous cancellations of Louisiana VooDoo games, and the abrupt departure of the Philadelphia Soul players and staff, resulting in questions about the future of the league, multiple teams that were owned by the league along with the Iowa Rampage folded or deactivated with plans to play in the 2025 season with league-owned teams often being reported to have not received payments for their games. The original commissioner of the league Lee Hutton was also removed following week 3 and was replaced with Nashville Kats owner Jeff Fisher as interim commissioner in a unanimous vote among team owners.
