Deutsch: Der Ortsname Ursberg bedeutet Berg eines Urso, wobei -berg im Sinne von Berg wie Burg zu deuten ist. Die Erklärung des Namens mit dem lateinischen Ursus, Bär, ist eine mittelalterliche Fehldeutung: Im 16. Jahrhundert, im Zeitalter des Humanismus, wollte man alles auf römischen oder lateinischen Ursprung zurückführen. Der Bär im Wappen beruht auf dieser Fehldeutung und ist dem Wappen des ehemaligen Reichsstifts Ursberg entnommen. Das Bärenwappen ist seit 1569 unter Abt Georg I. Lechler (1559 bis 1575) überliefert. Der Bär im Gemeindewappen erinnert an die 700-jährige Geschichte dieses großen Klosters, das 1119 gegründet wurde und seit 1143 Reichsabtei war. Das goldene Balkenkreuz weist auf das Dominikus-Ringeisen-Werk hin. 1884 kaufte der katholische Geistliche Dominikus Ringeisen das Kloster und baute dort eine Einrichtung für körperlich und geistig behinderte Menschen auf, die heute die größte Behinderteneinrichtung Süddeutschlands ist. |
