ሥራ ፣ በተፈጥሮ ህግጋት ጥናት መሰረት፣ በጉልበት የሚተላለፍ አቅም መጠን ማለት ነው። የሥራ መለኪያ መስፈርቱ ጁል (j) ይባላል።
የሥራን ጽንሰ ሃሳብ ያገኘው ፈረንሳዊው ሂሳብ ተመራማሪ ጋስፓርድ ጉስታቭ ሲሆን በሱ ትርጓሜ ሥራ ማለት ጉልበት ሲባዛ በርቀት ነበር። [1] ማለት
ሥራ = ጉልበት X ርቀት ... ግን ጉልበቱ በርቀቱ አቅጣጫ መሆን አለበት። ከላይ የጻፍነውን አባባል በቀላሉ በሂሳብ ቋንቋ ማስቀመጥ ይቻላል። ለዚህ ተግባር የዶት ብዜትን መጠቀም ግድ ይላል።
