የሚኖርበት የህዝብ ቁጥር (1998 ዓ.ም.) 2,009,264 ሆኖ ይገመታል። ከተማው 11°33′ ሰሜን ኬክሮስ እና 104°55′ ምሥራቅ ኬንትሮስ ላይ ተቀምጦ ይገኛል።
ስሙ የወጣ በ1365 ዓ.ም. ከተሠራው መቅደስ ዋት ፕኖም ዳውን ፔኝ ነው። በ1423 እስከ 1497 ዓ.ም. ድረስ የቤተ መንግሥት መቀመጫ ሆነ። እንደገና በ1858 ዓ.ም. ጀምሮ እስካሁን ዋና ከተማ ሆኗል።
