कथा के मोताबिक जीवक के जनम के बाद जंगल में बिग दिहल गइल रहे जहाँ से बिंबिसार के बेटा अभय इनके पा गइलेन। इनके बैदकी के पढ़ाई तक्षशिला में भइल रहे। इनके बारे में एगो अउरी कहानी चलन सार हवे कि जब इनसे गुरु पुछलें कि बन में जा के कौनों अइसन पौधा ले आवऽ जवना के बैदकी खाती कौनों महत्व न होखे, तब अंत में जीवक के उत्तर रहल कि अइसन कौनों पौधा ना बाटे।[3]
कुछ बिद्वान लोग इहो तर्क देला के जब बिंबिसार द्वारा जीवक के गौतम बुद्ध के निजी बैद बनावल गइल, बहुत सारा लोग उनसे इलाज करवावे खाती बौद्ध बन गइलें।[4]
