Το Σαγούντο (ισπανικά: Sagunto) ή αλλιώς Ζάκανθα είναι πόλη της Ισπανίας, στα βορειοανατολικά της Βαλένθια. Είναι η πρωτεύουσα της διοικητικής υπαγωγής της Πεδιάδας του Μορβέδρε, στα βόρεια της Βαλένθια. Με 66.140 κατοίκους, είναι η ενδέκατη μεγαλύτερη πόλη στην Βαλενθιανική Κοινότητα.

Ιδρύθηκε κατά τον 7ο αιώνα π.Χ., με το όνομα Ζάκανθα, ως αποικία της Ζακύνθου και απείχε 7 στάδια (1,3 χλμ.) από τη θάλασσα. Λεγόταν αλλιώς και Ζακυνθαίων πόλις.
H Ζάκανθα κατέστη μεγάλη εμπορική πόλη. Κατά τον 5ο αιώνα π.Χ. η πόλη ήταν γνωστή ως Άρση. Ο ιστορικός Πολύβιος (Γ΄ 16,6) αναφέρει την πολιορκία της Ζακάνθης από τον 26χρονο Αννίβα (218 π.Χ.), στην οποία αν και οι Ζακυνθινοί ζήτησαν την ρωμαϊκή βοήθεια (η οποία δεν έφθασε ποτέ), αντιστάθηκαν αλλά δεν απέτρεψαν την άλωση και την καταστροφή της. Αργότερα η πόλη ανοικοδομήθηκε από τους Ρωμαίους κατακτητές, που εκλατίνισαν την ονομασία της σε Saguntum.
Οι Άραβες κατέκτησαν την πόλη το 713. Σε αυτήν την εποχή οι Άραβες άλλαξαν το ονομασία της σε Morbyter, που προέρχεται από την λατινική έκφραση muris veteres (παλαιοί τοίχοι)[3].
Το 1239 έγινε η κατάκτηση της πόλης από τον Ιάκωβο Α΄ της Αραγωνίας.
Τον 18ο αιώνα, η ονομασία του Σαγούντο ήταν Murviedro και ο Αντόνιο Χοσέ Καμπανίγιες ανέφερε στο έργο του την εξέλιξη του πληθυσμού:
Το 1749 ο πληθυσμός του ήταν 938 κάτοικοι και σήμερα κατοικούν 1515. Αυτό οφείλεται στην εξέλιξη της καλλιέργειας[4].
Κατά τον Πόλεμο της Ιβηρικής Χερσονήσου το Σαγούντο κατακτήθηκε από τους Γάλλους. Το 1811 η πόλη πολιορκήθηκε για 34 ημέρες, στις οποίες 2.900 Ισπανοί στρατιώτες υπερασπιζόταν από τις επιθέσεις του Μαρισκάλ Σουσέτ.
Το 1868, η νέα Προσωρινή Κυβέρνηση άλλαξε την ονομασία της πόλης σε Sagunto.
Στις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα αναπτύχτηκε μια μεγάλη σιδηρουργία στο σημερινό πληθυσμιακό κέντρο (ισπανικά: núcleo de población) του Πουέρτο ντε Σαγούντο. Όταν ξεκίνησε ο Ισπανικός Εμφύλιος Πόλεμος, η πόλη έγινε γνωστή για την πολεμική βιομηχανία των Δημοκρατικών. Δέχτηκε επίσης πολλαπλούς βομβαρδισμούς από την Ισπανική Πολεμική Αεροπορία μερικές φορές κάθε ημέρα. Γι' αυτό το λόγο, οι πολίτες του Σαγούντο μετακινήθηκαν σε γειτονικές πόλεις τον Ιανουάριο του 1938[5].
Τη δεκαετία του 1980, λόγω της βιομηχανικής αναδιάρθρωσης και της οικονομικής κρίσης, έκλεισε και η τελευταία υψικάμινος. Θα πρέπει να σημειωθεί ότι όλη η ιστορία που σχετίζεται με το Πουέρτο ντε Σαγούντο αποτελεί μέρος του Σαγούντο, αφού τα δυο πληθυσμιακά κέντρα ανήκουν στον ίδιο δήμο.
Το Σαγούντο είναι η τέταρτη πόλη σύμφωνα με τον πληθυσμό του στην επαρχία της Βαλένθιας. Η δημογραφική σημασία του οφείλεται στην ανάπτυξη, που έγινε με την σιδηρουργία της πόλης στον 20ο αιώνα.
Η πιο ομιλούμενη γλώσσα στο Σαγούντο είναι η βαλενθιανική, ενώ στο Πουέρτο ντε Σαγούντο ομιλούνται περισσότερα τα ισπανικά.
