He began his professional career at Toulouse, making 196 total appearances and scoring 13 goals, while making the UNFP Ligue 1 Team of the Year for 2011–12. From 2013 to 2020 he played in England's Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Watford, reaching the 2019 FA Cup Final with the latter.
