Carlos Alcaraz defeated the defending champion Alexander Zverev[1] in the final, 6–3, 6–1 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Madrid Open.[2] Alcaraz also became the first man to defeat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the same clay court tournament, which he did in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.[3]
