Aleda Ester Lutz (November 9, 1915 – November 1, 1944) was a United States Army flight nurse. She was the first American servicewoman to be killed in combat during World War II,[1] and the first military woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, which she received posthumously.[2] She is the second-highest decorated woman in the history of the U.S. military.[3]
