Besnica (pronounced [ˈbeːsnitsa]; German: Weßnitz[2]) is a settlement in the hills east of the capital Ljubljana in central Slovenia. It belongs to the City Municipality of Ljubljana. It is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.[3] The stream that runs through the settlement is also called the Besnica. It is a tributary of the Ljubljanica, which it joins at Podgrad. Besnica includes the hamlets of Derčar, Jančar, Pečar, Prek, Špan, and Tomaž.
