Marvel Studios began developing a new Blade film by May 2013, after the rights for the character returned to the studio following the earlier New Line Cinema franchise. Ali discussed starring in a new take on the character in 2016, before approaching Marvel Studios with his idea in February 2019. The film was officially announced that July along with Ali's casting. Stacy Osei-Kuffour was hired as writer in February 2021, and Bassam Tariq joined as director by that September, but he left a year later due to the film's production shifts and creative differences. Demange and Starrbury took over in November 2022, Pizzolatto joined in April 2023, and Green was writing a new script by that November. Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-2024 in Mexico; it is also expected to occur at Trilith Studios and Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as in the United Kingdom, Cleveland, New Orleans, and Morocco.
Blade is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 7, 2025, as a part of Phase Six of the MCU.
