This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of low-resolution screenshots for critical commentary and discussion of the film and its contents on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under the Copyright law of the United States. 1. This image is used to illustrate the text next to which it appears, which describes how the Lord of the Rings character is portrayed in the particular adaptation from which the image is taken from (Ralph Bakshi's 1978 cartoon).
2. It is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality).
3. It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to market or sell the work in any way.
4. The image is being used in an informative way and should not detract from the original work.
5. No free or public domain images have been located for this item. (As the intent is to illustrate Bakshi's Aragorn in particular, there are no real alternatives.)
