Vers 1280, Othon IV abandonne ce blason pour "d'azur semé de billettes d'or au lion de même", dont les couleurs et les meubles traduisent le rapprochement qu'il opère avec le Royaume de France, notamment par les mariages de sa famille. Les sires de Montaigu, qui possédaient un château à Mersuay, ont conservé l'aigle d'argent. La ville reprit leur blason à la fin du XXème siècle. |
