Čeština: V současné době se na vodárnách jako primární detektor znečištění pitné vody využívá pstruh duhový neboli pstruh americký duhový (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Pstruh duhový pochází ze Severní Ameriky, kde se s ním můžeme setkat ve volné přírodě. V mírném pásmu jiných oblastí se vysazuje jen ke sportovnímu rybolovu či se chová pro maso. V případě, že by došlo k úhynu těchto ryb indikuje to znečištění pitné vody. Přívod pitné vody by tak včas byl odstaven.
