DescriptionEscudo de Tunja.jpg | El 29 de marzo de 1541 el emperador Carlos V convedió a Tunja el título de ciudad y su escudo con la siguiente descipcion: escudo heráldico de forma hispano-francesa cuartelado en cruz y escudete triangulado de punta. El primer y ultimo cuartel sobre campo de plata en señal de integridad, leon rampante en gules lampasado de lo mismo y coronado, simbolo de autoridad y fortaleza. El segundo y tercer cuartel sobre campo de gules, torres almenadas de color piedra, como emblema de grandeza. Escudete de punta sobre campo de plata; granada rajada en gules y hojas sínople, símbolo de unidad religiosa y territorial de España a partir de los Reyes Católicos y además personifica el Nuevo Reino de Granada. Como timbre y enmarcando el escudo aguila esployada en sable, atributo de poder supremo. Pendiendo de las alas "Toisón de Oro", divisa del Ducado de Borgoña, instituido por Carlos I de España y V de Alemania, cuyo collar lo conforman eslabones de oro y pedernales expidiendo llamas, del cual pende el vellón de carnero. Como cimera corona real. |
