English: Grave of John Graham of Claverhouse, Viscount Dundee On the 27th July 1689, Viscount Dundee (Bonny Dundee) commanded the Jacobite army at the battle of Killiecrankie. They defeated the government forces under General Hugh Mackay of Scourie but Dundee was killed at the point of victory.
He was buried beneath here in a vault at St. Bride's kirk at Old Blair 3 days later. The church dates from the 16th century but was built on an ancient site. It is now roofless and preserved as an ancient monument. |
