English: Gravestone to the dead of the USS Oneida, lost in a collision with the P&O steamer "City of Bombay" on January 23, 1870. The bodies were found in the wreck after it was sold to a Japanese salvage firm and their ashes interred here. There were once metal lettering, but they were apparently pried off and melted for the war effort during World War II.
