Summary
DescriptionRemnants of Rushey Platt Station, Swindon - geograph.org.uk - 1716321.jpg |
English: Remnants of Rushey Platt Station, Swindon. This view hasn't changed much in the last two years when Nigel Cox obtained this image 599684 The station opened in 1883 and closed to passengers in 1905 although it remained open for goods traffic until the 1960s. The station was situated at the junction of two sections of what became the Midlands and South Western Junction Railway (M&SWJR) where one branch (the 'high level') ran on to Cirencester and Cheltenham, at the time called the Swindon & Cheltenham Extension Railway (S&CER) and the other, low level branch, part of the Swindon Marlborough and Andover Railway (SMAR), joined the Great Western Railway (GWR) nearby to provide a connection at Swindon Junction Station about 2 kilometres to the north-east. An historic photograph http://www.swindonsotherrailway.co.uk/mike90.html shows the both lines with their associated buildings. Whether this fragment is 'low level' or 'high level' I wouldn't like to say. |
