Mikhail Vasilyevich Ostrogradsky (transcribed also Ostrogradskiy, Ostrogradskiĭ) (Russian: Михаи́л Васи́льевич Острогра́дский, Ukrainian: Миха́йло Васи́льович Острогра́дський; 24 September 1801 – 1 January 1862) was a Russian[1][2] mathematician, mechanician and physicist of Ukrainian Cossack ancestry.[3][4][5][6][7][8] Ostrogradsky was a student of Timofei Osipovsky and is considered to be a disciple of Leonhard Euler, who was known as one of the leading mathematicians of Imperial Russia.
