The name is derived from the personal name Přebor, meaning "Přebor's (court)".[2]
Přeborov is located about 24 kilometres (15 mi) northeast of Písek and 60 km (37 mi) south of Prague. It lies in the Vlašim Uplands. The highest point is at 567 m (1,860 ft) above sea level.
The first written mention of Přeborov is from 1488.[3]
There are no railways or major roads passing through the municipality.
There are no protected cultural monuments in the municipality.[6] In the centre of Přeborov is the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary.
