Why is absent situation in the Bronx during Ed Koch mayoral?
This section currently consists entirely of speculation about, and presumed knowledge of, Koch's sex life. There's too much of it. I suggest cutting it down judiciously to a few words taken from the most reliable sources. Goodtablemanners (talk) 19:19, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
There's a sentence as to Koch supporting the death penalty and adding more police, but the article linked to stresses that the reduction in crime happened only starting in 1990, when Dinkins was Mayor, and improved techniques such as Compstat and community policing, begun in 1993, again while Dinkins was Mayor. This is as opposed to the long downward slide during Koch's 12 years in office.68.196.6.82 (talk) 02:47, 22 November 2021 (UTC)captcrisis
Maybe I'm missing something, but under his early years section is says:
"After V-E Day, because he could speak German, Koch was sent to Bavaria to help remove Nazi public officials from their jobs and find non-Nazis to take their place. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1946. Koch returned to New York City to attend City College of New York, graduating in 1945."
He graduated from the City College of New York *before* he was discharged from the army? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.242.86 (talk) 21:37, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
This source says he never went back to CCNY; he went to law school without finishing undergrad studies and the college gave him a bachelor's degree in the 1980s. It looks like there is actually some close paraphrasing in the article. I can address these issues when I get back to a laptop if no one has had the chance to do so. As stated in the introductory paragraph, “third Jewish mayor” and it includes LaGuardia. Granted LaGuardia was born of an Italian Jewish family, but was a life long Catholic… so isn’t including him a bit of a stretch? Maybe it’s splitting hairs but wouldn’t it be better to say 2nd practicing Jewish mayor and 3rd of Jewish origin? As currently written it seems a bit dubious and not up to Wikipedia’s usual high standards. 98.235.68.109 (talk) 03:48, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
There doesn't seem to be anything in the article that supports this claim either? Unless a source can be provided I think the claim should be removed. Pinging Castncoot(talk·contribs) who first added a claim about Koch being the second Jewish mayor. 24.90.77.69(talk·contribs) then updated it to third. DonIago (talk) 15:12, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
I've changed "third" to "second", and added an explanatory note about La Guardia. La Guardia is in Category:American people of Italian-Jewish descent, but not in any of the direct Jewish categories. He did not identify as Jewish and never practiced Judaism, though obviously his heritage was significant to his life and political career. Pharos (talk) 21:00, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
La Guardia spoke Yiddish, famously campaigning as Jewish. It's not a stretch at all. He was proud of his Jewish heritage. Drsruli (talk) 20:38, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
I'm looking for a good source; this was a minor issue at one point while he was mayor, and he was known to bring his own wine to restaurants. https://www.ebay.com/itm/195851476933Drsruli (talk) 00:49, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
