Hi, I will post my comments soon. Sainsf (talk · contribs) 08:15, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- Copyvio check: I found some close paraphrasing here but I am not sure which is the original.
- No dablink, external link issues.
- A handful of duplinks. Check using this tool
- Sourcing and citations: Overall decent, a few things:
- page ranges should be separated by endashes '–'
- ref 15 is in all caps
- dates could be written in a more consistent format
- Use 'p.' for a single page, 'pp.' for multiple. Say 'p.' not 'page'
- ref 27 is a tagged dead link
Most of his supposed birth years would have likely made him the oldest person in the world before his death.
No inline citation
- First para of Legend lacks inline citations
- Comments on prose and coverage
- The lead should not have citations. Ensure all facts mentioned there are in the main text too.
- Stick to calling him Gaspar throughout unless it is his first mention in the lead and main text
- No caption for the John Gómez pic?
Treasure hunters have, however, disrupted ... non-pirate's non-treasure."[13][17]
not sure how this is relevant to this article.
- What exactly was Panther Key?
Tampa now hosts many Gasparilla-themed events
"Now" is not a good word to use as this may not be updated later and readers might not know what time this is from. You can say "As of xxxx (year), Tampa hosts..." or something similar that is not vague.
Overall a very interesting article, prose really well-written and coverage is broad enough. This is the first time I read about a mysterious pirate, and I must say I loved it :) Sainsf (talk · contribs) 19:37, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review; you made some good points. A couple things - the citations are included in the lead because there is a small but fervent group of people on Florida's Gulf coast who still insist that Jose Gaspar was an actual person and have occasionally changed this article to reflect this misconception. Having citations after key sentences right at the top seems to have discouraged such behavior somewhat. These Gaspar true believers are such a notable sidebar to the legend that their activities have been covered in the news and other media, which is why there's a mention of treasure hunters poking around and causing damage to historical sites. And as for the use of "now" when talking about Tampa's Gasparilla events, while the wording might not be the best, the Gasparilla Pirate Festival is such an immutable part of local culture that there's no way it would end save for something terrible like a pandemic, and what are the chances of that? :-|
- Anyway, thanks again! I'll work on the suggestions after I get my eLearning materials done for this week. Zeng8r (talk) 15:44, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
@Zeng8r: it is soon going to be 2 weeks without any activity here.. I'm afraid GA reviews can not remain open for too long. Please respond within 3 days. Sainsf · (How ya doin'?) 16:22, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- I know, I know - I'm a teacher and my computer time has been almost entirely eaten up by elearning. I'll see if I can get on this soon... Zeng8r (talk) 01:23, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
- This page has been inactive since two weeks now, and the nominator appears quite busy in real life (no edits since a week). It's nearly a month since this review started and issues remain, so I'm failing this for now. Please renominate this when possible after working on the suggestions, all the best!
