Are there any numbers for black friday? Sony beat MS and Nintendo last month in Japan, and MS lied about how much they beat the PS3.--Playstationdude 20:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, they claimed they doubles PS3 sales, when actually they trippled PS3 sales. This should be added, also about how Sony said MS sold less than twice as many consoles, when actually it was more than twice as many. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.165.59.39 (talk) 03:29, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
There's no mention in the article that the 60GB model has been totally discontinued in Europe. THe only one officially on sale is the 40GB, meaning you can't buy a PS3 here with backwards compatability. And yet it STILL COSTS MORE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD!!! All this content and not a single mention of HDCP? The Playstation 3 requires a HDCP compliant TV or monitor to display HD resolutions. Otherwise it will default to 480i. Seems like pertinent information to me. 64.106.28.4 (talk) 18:59, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
The sentence "Many suggest[weasel words] that the removal of the 20 GB model in North America was probably made to save with manufacturing costs, as there is a difference in cost between the two models of around $30." Can be easily reworded to do away with the weasel words and other grammatical incoherencies. My suggestion is "It is widely speculated that the removal of the 20 GB model from the North American Market was probably done in order to save manufacturing costs, as there is a difference in cost between the two aforementioned models of around $30." This is my best suggestion based on my advanced writing skills and analysis. Use it or a similar composition if you so desire but I'm not forcing the designated author to use it whatsoever. Just a helpful suggestion, that's all.

I'm not trying to start a huge battle here, but I feel that the "Reception" section is getting out of hand. I mean, it's been more than a year since the PS3 launched, so who wants to read a detailed decription of what was said/thought a year ago? I think the section needs to be greatly reduced and placed in a historical context (ie. equal representation for both sets of opinions and only the best/most eloquent examples of reactions should be retained. see the Wii's section on this for what I mean). I eagerly await your thoughts on my proposal. Thingg (talk) 00:39, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Would someone who completely understands how to do so please achive this page? I looked at the help articles on how to move a page, but I don't completely understand it. Thanks Thingg (talk) 00:48, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Someone needs to add something about firmware 2.00 being able to output SACD as 5.1 DTS over the optical cable. And then say that firmware 2.01 actually removed this function, without Sony providing a reason for the change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.203.71.130 (talk) 10:52, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Edit: Ignore me, just realised it's in the main System Software article. Sorry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.203.71.130 (talk) 10:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
I don't think it is necessary to include the "Selected Video Game Consoles" twice in this article. I understand why it was probably included the second time, but I feel it is unnecessary. If you disagree, please feel free to put it back. Thingg (talk) 22:35, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

I did not put that tag on this page, but I definately agree with it. I looked at the page, and I noticed that a good portion of the present article is made up of a section on the PS3's system software. Does anyone object to me moving most of that information to the PlayStation 3 System Software article? At the present, all that page has is basically a list of the updates to the system software and what they added. I feel that the information on the PS3's software capabilities will fit in very appropriately with the information that is already there. If no one has any objections, I will move the information within 36 hours. Thingg (talk) 02:08, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
The Prose Timeline conflict is pointless. Wikipedia is nearing a strange kind of conflict here. If wikipedia is trying to be a professional encyclopedia, why on earth would they allow everyone everywhere to edit it? They obviously aren't professionals and cannot be expected to produce professional quality work. On the other hand, to complain about an inappropriate mixture of prose and timeline format is ignorant. A list is an appropriate addition to a prose piece, and a timeline must include prose explanations of each entry. And the claim of its inappropriate nature isnt supported with any details. I've studied writing for years, journalism is my college major, and I can assure you that it is not an inappropriate mixture of prose and a timeline. If copyediting is the issue, go ahead and claim it needs to be written better. I would support a motion to ask that it be written more clearly, but at this point, I move to take down that really ignorant banner complaining about its inappropriate nature. Thend (talk) 21:30, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
The Prose Timeline conflict is gone. So, no one debated the issue I raised earlier, and I went ahead and relieved the article of that additional clutter. Thend (talk) 22:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
The response Alright, well, I cannot make it clear to you that you were ignorant in adding those banners, because I never claimed that you were ignorant. So, let's concede that there was no personal attack there. I do harbor a particular animosity for misused banners, however, and this is wikipedia, so we have before us a forum dedicated to discussing why I might be against something you thought was appropriate. And if you thought that it was, that's fine, but we have discussion pages so I can tell everybody why I disagree, and so you can tell everyone why you thought so in the first place.
It's not unreasonable to have seen the format of the article and thought, ok, this should be revised. and it should, but the proseline thing is not the issue. what most likely caused this article to appear this way, was that it was updated on the relevant dates and was meant to be a really up-to-date article about how great playstation 3's were going to be, and then no one took care of it for a while. So we're left with this list of headlines describing action that is no longer current. So, the proseline banner is not a clear or applicable way to describe that the dates are no longer relevant or necessary information, and that someone should condense the article to contain information we need to know now.
There are two main criteria for news stories. One states that the article must be about new information that holds consequence for its readers. Or, the second states that the article must contain new information of consequence about an old topic. So the dates should be taken out because this is no longer news, this no longer holds consequence.
So, I'm saying that the proseline banner is not applicable to the text (1), and that is was not the best way to let the community know that revisions should take place (2). And as you thought my earlier post could have been personally offensive, its a bit inflammatory to include a big banner proclaiming that a part of the article is inappropriate. Thend (talk) 21:53, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Some information is needed on why the price cut seen in the U.S hasn't been done in Europe and Australia. Also we need information on why the PS3 is so much more expensive in the U.S. For example, the current exchange rate is $1AUD is almost 90 U.S cents, however the console costs around $500USD, but the 60GB version costs around $900AUD in Oz. Is SONY deliberately "price gouging" to make up for lost profits? Frvernchanezzz (talk) 08:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
I had previously suggested that this change be made. I feel the article is now a reasonable length and I will be removing the tag from the page. Also, when updating the section on system software in this article, please only put a summary until the most recent "major" update. (eg. if the next update is v2.02, then add the info for that update and leave the rest, but if it is v2.10, then remove the present inforamtion and replace it with a summary of the new update). The PlayStation 3 System Software article is the place to put a detailed description of the PS3's software updates. Thanks . Thingg (talk) 15:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

According to the latest reports the number of ps3 that have been sold worldwide is 7.47 million as of November 2007. You need to update this!!!!! according to the following website:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multimedia/display/20071218093126_Sony_Hopes_to_Sell_11_Million_PlayStation_3_Systems_to_Consumers_by_Late_March.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noorkhanuk85 (talk • contribs) 03:18, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
The part that suggests the PS3 is outselling all other consoles according to the GfK figures quoted by the Sony Aus bigwig in Australia may have been correct at launch (which isn't a shock), but now things have settled down, the PS3 is unfortunately lagging. The 3rd quarter GfK sales figures show the PS3 selling 27,000 units compared to 40,000 for the Xbox 360 and 61,000 units for the Wii. Can we be reasonable and agree on one specific example of how the retail configuration box is going to be modelled and what it is going to include and not include? Because every time I check it is a different version. This has been the case for several months now, that it is being reshaped at least twice every week. We need a more static retail configuration box. — EliasAlucard (talk · contribs) 20:26, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
I switched the last line of the table back to "In Production", and marked the 60GB PAL as "No", since anything not in production might be (and at the moment almost certainly is) still available from various merchants. You can still buy Sega Genesis games factory sealed from certain merchants, so there's no way to prove when all stock is sold from every merchant - availability is too subjective to market conditions, whereas In Production is much easier to prove. Ruyn (talk) 14:03, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Does anyone object to me making seperate articles for the bulk of the info under "Retail configurations" and "Games"? I feel these sections are far to detailed for a broad discussion of the PS3. I thought I should ask here before I do this. Thingg (talk) 18:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I have just reverted this edit. The reason I reverted it is because all reliable sources state that the PS3 supports 7 wireless controllers. I don't care if you state that you own a PS3 and you think can't use more than 4 controllers - you are not a reliable source, so unless you can find a reliable source that explicitly states it can only support 4 controllers, it is original research and cannot be added. Besides this, games such as FIFA 08 do actually have support for seven players. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 02:47, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
The price for games listed near the end of the Launch section appears to contain a typo, but I am unsure of how it should read. It currently reads:
Local PS3 game standard price is MXN$8,99.

Does anyone have any problem with me removing some of the launch information under the "launch" section? All of the info and more is listed in the PlayStation 3 launch article and I feel it is unnecessary to list the info in both places. Thingg (talk) 01:42, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
I would like to propose making a small article called Timeline of PlayStation 3 SKUs or something similar to list the information that is currently placed under the table of SKUs. Most of the info probably doesn't need to be listed here, and I feel this article would be fine without it being included. Then, if readers wish to find out more about when and where the SKUs were released, they can just click on the link and read away. Thingg (talk) 01:42, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Reading through the technical specifications in the hardware portion of the article, I find it hard to get the information. I propose that it be formated simular to the Wii's sub-article: Technical specifications Seth Hikari (talk) 23:49, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
There is a slight mistake under the 'PlayStation Portable Connectivity' subheading. It says that the 'Remote play has since expanded to allow remote access to the PS3 via PSP from any wireless access point in the world.', but does not mention that the wireless access point has to have internet. Just a slight mistake. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oharapj (talk • contribs) 07:41, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Playstation 3 & PS4 News There are already some adverts and news articles on GameFAQs about the PS4. However, upon visiting the site listed above, there appears to be nothing about the PS4 on the page. Maybe a new advertising ploy to get readers? 69.156.176.163 (talk) 00:51, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
The figure does not really add up. NPD says that the PS3's US sales up to October 2007 were 2.3 million.
November's US sales were 466 thousand.
December's US sales were 1.2 million.
This gives a grand total of just under 4 million (3,966,000) PS3 consoles sold in the US.
Maybe the figure they are quoting includes Canada/Mexico/rest of north america. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.125.22.164 (talk • contribs)

Closer, closer, but too many problems to simply just put on hold. Let's have a blow by blow:
Also announced were two configurations of the console, a "60 GB" and "20 GB", for $599/€599 and $499/€499 respectively. The 60 GB would be the only configuration to feature a HDMI port, Wi-Fi internet, and a chrome trim with the logo in silver. It was announced for a global release date, November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America and Europe. On September 6, 2006, Sony announced that the PAL region (Europe and Oceania) PlayStation 3 launch had been delayed until March 2007, due to a shortage of diodes used in the Blu-ray Disc drive.
--David Fuchs (talk) 18:55, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
someone has an agenda to keep the sales figures for the ps3 down. the console has sold far more than 6 million, yet some cunts keep it at this for some reason. also motorstorm and resistance are not the only million sellers, assassins creed and COD4 have both sold well over a million each, and PES and FIFA08 are nearly there. this can easily be sourced even if u just find the total sales then subtract sales of 360 etc. overall it is very clear that wikipedia has a very anti sony bias and would love nothing more than seeing the company go down in flames. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.179.186.254 (talk) 05:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't see what the problem is with using vgchartz. There are some media outlets that quote vgchartz numbers. I suppose though, that vgchartz is sort of a "prediction" more than accurate shipment/sales numbers, but there numbers are pretty damn accurate once the "real" figures are released by NPD etc (well, except maybe for the 360; vg says 16.6 million, wikipedia says 17.7 million). This section is just horribly writen and has to be changed. First it says the PS3 had poor reception then it talks about how game magazines and websites praised it. How is it possible that fanboys can manage to get around the page lock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.41.21 (talk) 22:03, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
The section is not biased. If you bothered to think a little bit, you would realize that the section first talks about the initial negative reaction to the ps3, and then goes on to talk about the changing perceptions towards it. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 05:44, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Criticism about the high price can be sourced pretty easily. Though personally, I thought it's price was ok, since it had all this new technology in it, and was cheaper than a high end/gaming PC. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 01:30, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
i can recall a large amount of bad reviews. but new ones are only coming from fanboy sites or mags, so saying "they dident like it, then they did" seems ok —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.218.44.142 (talk) 00:52, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
This section is definitely biased. If anything, the PS3 saw mixed reviews upon launch as CNET (by far, the most popular consumer electronic review site) gave it very favorable rating of 8.7 of 10. Dangerousns (talk) 21:16, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I read in a Popular Mechanics (I think), that soon after the PS3 was released, people started hooking them up to a cancer research project(that home computers were already connected to), greatly increasing the processing power of project. Has anyone else heard this or has the article? I can't find the magazine anymore.
