My name is Marilee. I used to really like wikipedia. During the summer of 2006, CBC radio interviewed me about WIFI and I plugged wikipedia during the interview. Just recently, I tried contributing to wikipedia and my edits were reverted as vandalism, the admin who reverted my edits would not talk to me. The admin broke the 3RR rule, and then I mistakenly also broke the 3RR rule too. I reported both the admin and myself, but only I was blocked. I talked to a few of my instructors about the article with the false and misleading information on it, and their response was "that's why no one in the acedemic community considers Wikipedia a reliable source on anything." When I told my boyfriend, he said "Wikipedia is good for looking up soft drinks, that's it. It's good this happened, you had too much Wikipedia pride anyway." I likely won't ever try to contribute to Wikipedia again because of this incident... but I will continue to use it if I need to look up useless and trivial information. |
