After the Fall of the Haitian Monarchy in favor of a democratic republic, the Haitian Imperial Family would go into exile to the United States where they would live for support of Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Warren G. Harding, due to Haitian support during World War I, the US government would give them a mansion in the State of Louisiana.
After the years in which the Monarchy was banned from the common life of Haiti the president in those years, René-Mercy Anoïse, would give the Haitian Imperial Family the opportunity to return to live in Haiti again after 73 years in exile in the United States, their residences would not be returned as they would be converted into Cultural and National Heritage of Haiti (See also: Empress Palace, Independence Cathedral, Cap-Haïtien Winter Palace, Gonave Palace, Turk and Caicos Residence, Jean-Jacques Palace) even though they would maintain their official residence in Charlottevallée (Grand Imperial Palace)
