1. Trends in Usage
This section would cover a range of features of the changing patterns of heroin use in Australia. It would include: geographical hotspots for heroin users, characteristics or profiles of the types of heroin users, general usage trends (such as the heroin drought in 2001), and changing ingestion trends.
2. Supply
The supply section of this Wikipedia page would cover the general prevalence and price of heroin and the changing patterns of this over the years. This would include heroin’s availability, the supply routes used to import heroin into Australia, the changing price of heroin over the years (including the impact of the ‘drought’, and the impact of drug law enforcement seizes).
3. Fatalities
The changing patterns of overdoses in Australia from heroin use is an important section that was neglected in the Wikipedia page ‘Illicit drug use in Australia’. It would allow for readers to get a statistical understanding of the declining mortality rates amongst the Australian population.
4. Shooting galleries
Shooting galleries, or safe injecting rooms, have been part of the Australian heroin discourse since the opening of the Sydney Medically Supervised Injecting Centre in 2001. It was the first safe injection room worldwide, and has continued success. This was mentioned briefly in the ‘Illicit Drug Use in Australia’ Wikipedia page, but I intend to include more on the controversies in establishing safe injecting rooms across the nation, especially the recent campaign for safe injection rooms in Victoria.
