From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The football team of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria is a representative team set up to represent the Chechen diaspora, and the unrecognised nation of Ichkeria. The team is organised by the Chechnya Football Federation; this organisation is based in France, and is separate from the Football Federation of the Chechen Republic, which is affiliated to the Russian Football Union and organises local football in Chechnya itself. The Chechen team participated in the first UNPO Cup, a tournament organised by the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization in 2005, held in The Hague, Netherlands.[1] The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria's first ever international was played against Southern Cameroons, and resulted in a 2-2 draw which the Chechens then won in a penalty shoot-out to advance to the final, where they came up against South Moluccas, losing 3-1.[2]

In June 2005, the Chechen Football Federation became provisional members of the NF Board, the organisation set up to organise international football for those teams not affiliated to FIFA.[3] This has allowed the team to play further internationals against other members of the NF Board. The first of these was against Occitania in September 2005, which saw the Chechens lose 14-0, while a second game against Monaco resulted in a 13-1 defeat.
