Greetings, GA Cup competitors! December 29th marked the end of the first round, after it was extended from its previously scheduled conclusion at the end of November. Because of the smaller pool of contestants this year, it was decided to keep sign-ups open throughout the month of December. This extension proved to be very helpful as we saw that more users signed up and completed many reviews. Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an impressive 402 points, followed by Cartoon network freak with a close 338 points. Shearonink who signed up after our extension was in third with 170 points. We had a rule clarification in Round 1 which was that many articles were being passed with blatant copyright violations and plagarism occurring in the articles. Thus, the judges have concluded that if an article is passed even if it has a copyright violation/plagarism, we will not provide points for that article as it wouldn't be considered a "complete review" under the scoring rules. In the end, 94 articles were reviewed by 14 users who will all advance to Round 2. The judges had planned on having 16 contestants advance but since only 14 did, we are changing the pools in this round. We will be having 2 pools of 3 and 2 pools of 4 in Round 2, with the top 2 in each pool advancing to Round 3 as well as the top participant ("9th place") of all remaining competitors. Round 2 will begin on January 1 at 00:00:00 UTC and will end on January 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase! To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

On 2 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lolita (Leah LaBelle song), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Welsh singer-songwriter Charlotte Church criticised director Diane Martel's music video for the song "Lolita", calling it "an objectionable little number"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lolita (Leah LaBelle song). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lolita (Leah LaBelle song)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello:
I am working on the GOCE c/e for Alyssa Milano discography and have a couple of questions.
The article states: "Prior to her record contract, Milano had contributed to the charity album We Are The World as part of a group of child stars." Wasn’t this actually a single?
Also this – "In 1990, the singer released her first compilation album, The Best in the World: Non-Stop Special Remix/Alyssa's Singles, which spent a total of eight weeks on Japanese chart and reaching its highest position at number nine." I assume the Japanese chart in question is the Oricon Albums Chart so I have made this correction. Please let me know if this is not the case.
F.Y.I. I passed on your other requests as I have edited them in the past. They would likely benefit from a c/e by another editor.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Twofingered Typist (talk) 21:00, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
Hey, how have you been? I just got back to regular editing here, and was doing a lot of catching up. I will also try to take a look at the FAC on the Russell Family soon, but you seem to be really into Passions, is there anything in particular that attracts you? Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Kazon you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of J Milburn -- J Milburn (talk) 00:40, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the review of "King Worm" (it's one of my fav episodes, too). I have a tiny favor. The other day, an editor reviewed my GAN for "James Baxter the Horse", and while some of their critiques were valid, I found many of them to be based solely on the editor's user preferences, and not on the GA requirements (the review is readable here). Anyway, I put quite a bit of work into the article to fix those issues which I agreed with, and I was wondering if you'd be willing to review it (again). I honestly don't think it should take too long (it's not a huge article, and like I said, I've put a lot of work into making it better). If you are interested, there's absolutely no rush on it. Thanks.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 17:40, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
You have submitted two GA reviews for the WikiCup and they are on the borderline between being too short and being acceptable. I will accept them on this occasion because I don't want to discourage you, but in future please be more thorough with your reviews if you want to claim the points in the WikiCup. For example, you could usefully list the GA criteria and indicate that you have assessed the article with regard to each of these. Thank you, Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:19, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

On 15 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gagged (EP), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Hi, I just saw your message on my talk page and I wanted to thank you for the kind words. I am honored that my work has inspired you, and after having looked at your user page, I am thoroughly impressed with the work you have accomplished. Although I am long retired from Wikipedia, I greatly appreciate the memories I made on this site, and I wish you the best of luck as you continue to contribute. If you ever need any advice, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Maybe one day when I'm done with my fellowship, I'll come back and finally fulfill my ultimate goal of promoting Grey's Anatomy to FA.

Hello Aoba47,
Why did you change all of the content from a GA article to a redirect? -- 1989 (talk) 14:57, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi there! I just wanted to quickly thank you for the Barnstar you gave me for my Clair Huxtable article; your kind words mean a lot to me! It's funny that you say my work inspires you to better yourself, which is great to hear and all, but in reality your work does the same for me! I constantly find myself visiting your profile to reference the list of fictional characters you've promoted to GA to see if I'm heading on the right track, especially when I'm working on television characters.
Keep up the good work, and maybe we can collaborate on something in the near future. Cheers! <3--Changedforbetter (talk) 06:36, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

@Carbrera: Hello again. Just wanted to let you know that I started a little bit of work in my sandbox on Eve. Hey Aoba47, just a quick question to ask of you. Would you mind taking a look at Speed Buggy and giving me your thoughts. It was one of my favorite cartoons that reran when I was growing up! I entirely rewrote it, basing it off of your work on both Love, Inc. and Eve ;). I will be taking a look at your FAC very soon as well. Regards, Carbrera (talk) 06:20, 21 February 2017 (UTC).
It just came to me that this may come across as me asking you to perform the GA review, but this is not the case. Just thought I'd bring this up before you or someone else did. ;) Thanks, Carbrera (talk) 06:21, 21 February 2017 (UTC).
Hey Aoba, I'm glad to see you're still doing great work on Wikipedia. I just wanted to ask you something regarding references. I've seen that many of the articles you've worked on have citations that are very old, even like a decade old, that you've taken from Wayback Machine. What I wonder is, how do you find these sources? I'm asking cause there's a cartoon called A.T.O.M. (2006) whose page I'd like to improve but I have no idea how to do it. I've tried WBM's search engine but didn't really come up with anything. Greetings. Few hours ago I nominated D.Gray-man to FA and tried pinging all the users from the peer review. However, in that same peer review, a user told the ping function didn't work so I wanted to make sure if it worked at least with someone. Anyways, while I would like to see your comments, I know you are also busy with other works in Wikipedia. Good luck.Tintor2 (talk) 00:40, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
I just wanted to let you know that in case you ever want to improve an article and nominate it for GA/FA this specific site right here can be very helpful in finding any dead sources the page might have. It's a lot less time consuming than having to check every single source individually. Also, ironically, the page I checked is "List of Eve episodes" and apparently one of the sources is dead.
