Thank you for your initial guidance and the latest detailed critique of the above - very useful indeed. In fact now as I look more into the article I see more of such wrinkles. For sure I will address as many of these as I can. When I came across this article about two years ago it was dire, so I am actually very pleased with its current state even though I see the gaps to 'Good article' status. If it fails this time, so be it, but I will continue to work on it Hjamesberglen (talk) 13:32, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

I have created {{Sketch Map of Middle-earth}}, which embodies your map and the clickable regions into a single object (as I did for the legendarium diagram). The clickable regions are copied from the version in Middle-earth, though I assume there is no reason for them to be different in other articles such as Geography of Middle-earth. It will make it easier to make the clickable version available wherever the map is used (nine articles in en:wp) and it is less likely that the links will be removed by confused editors. One minor point: I have capitalised 'Map' to match the file name, though WP standards would keep it lower-case. Should I change it?
NB: I feel that The Annotated Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion belong somewhere in {{J. R. R. Tolkien}}. Do you intend to add them? -- Verbarson talkedits 17:07, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

I recently discovered and have been playing with ImageMapEdit. I have used it to amend the clickable areas on the sketch map of Middle-earth - that is to say, I have not changed the template, but there is an amended version at User:Verbarson/sandbox#ME. I have brought the rectangular areas into better registration with the intended target and/or the text on the map, and have replaced some of the larger areas with polygons. I have also removed the ", Middle-earth" from the displayed text of Bree, Moria and Rohan.
I thought you would appreciate the chance to check it out and comment, before I change the current template. -- Verbarson talkedits 16:02, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

The groups of Rhodelphidia and Picozoa are ignored in your todays edits of Archaeplastida (either in external, or internal phylogeny). Is it an intention? Your simplified version of Archaeplastida internal phylogeny ignores the recent research, analysing the position of Rhodelphidia (sister to Rhodophyta; DOI:10.1038/s41586-019-1398-6, 2019) and Picozoa (sister to Rhodelphidia + Rhodophyta; DOI: 10.1038/s41467-021-26918-0, 2021), both confirmed by an independent analysis (DOI: 10.1098/rsob.210376, 2022).
IMO ignoring recent studies is not the optimal way for correction of original research. So I recommend to include at least a comment that if Archaeplastida shell be considered as a clade (as written in perex), Picozoa and Rhodelphidia are probably their internal groups (with refs I have provided in previous sentence). Going to the other extreme, I also came across an open-access journal issue (336 pages) that I really hope you have not seen yet (it says published 2022, but I am not sure from which point it was available online), as it is a joy to read through if you like this sort of thing. The journal is Thersites: Journal for Transcultural Presences & Diachronic Identities from Antiquity to Date. Volume 15 (2022) is 'There and Back Again: Tolkien and the Greco-Roman World' - the introduction is a very clear overview of the contents and the rationale behind the collection and its themes (e.g. "One such emergent theme is that of decline, a perennial subject of GrecoRoman antiquity that captivated Tolkien to such a degree that it arguably became Middle-earth’s Leitmotiv") - enjoy! Posting this here because the question is off topic for a talk page. I'm not new to wikipedia, I simply insist on not creating an account for reasons I explained several times. I'm not evading any blocks, if that's what you're concerned about, as I was never blocked, in fact I chose to stay out of articles concerning american politics when a topic ban was suggested (but not followed through) during an ANI discussion, years ago. If you really must know, you can check the entire IP range, as most activity from it is mine. Admins and other long time users are aware of me, Springee in particular, but I don't believe it would be helpful to bother him about me again, especially when there's no real reason for it.
Of course, none of this changes the fact that I'm correct about the site policy, which I have researched thoroughly. 46.97.170.151 (talk) 16:37, 18 May 2023 (UTC)

I'm not going to fight you on it. This was my reasoning:
Per Template:Quote box "this use is not advised in articles." I think I read somewhere that it causes issues with display on mobile devices too.
I changed the translation of a verse use a verse translation template because: It allows for inclusion of the language identification markup, and less importantly, the blockyness of the table version was somewhat jarring / cramping of the text. (Hohum @) 18:51, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for opening discussion. My opinion about the image on the Animal page is that interpreting the image's "diversity" from a perspective that is purely phyla-proportional is not helpful.
The image serves the purpose of representing what an "animal" is for the reader (as in, a person). Your edit only removed examples that readers would have likely been more able to recognize, the mammal tiger and the bird blue jay. Having at least one token land fauna on the image helps to ground the topic in a familiar reality, showing the reader the extent of what the topic covers, which is why it's a technique that is employed by almost all other relevant taxonomy page images on Wikipedia. Excluding them because it's technically more proportionally accurate only harms the understandability of the image.
Using the original image does not "under-represent" the invertebrates, they still make up the majority of the image. The edited image does something of a disservice to the human perspective on what an animal is (and in my opinion also does a disservice to Animalia's evolutionary extent), by not including any land vertebrates whatsoever. Dear Chiswick Chap,
It's evident that you are an expert on all things Tolkien, so I was wondering if I could ask you: would it be possible for you to turn to the article on Tolkien's 1931 speech and republished book, A Secret Vice? I'd like to improve it, but I'm a fairly new editor, and it's in such a mess that I don't really know where to start - Frzzl talk; contribs 16:13, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
Hello,
I noticed that you contributed heavily to Music of The Lord of the Rings film series and that you seemed to be in possession of The Music of The Lord of the Rings Films by Doug Adams. If you still have access to that book, could you tell me what pages state that Viggo Mortensen sang "Aragorn's Coronation" and "The Lay of Beren and Lúthien"? So there's pl:Glaurung and I fear that if I were to try to AfD it there, it would be kept b/c of that tidbit :( Btw, what list do you mean? On 10 August 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Thomas Carlyle, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Thomas Carlyle (pictured) was the first writer to use the expression "meaning of life"? You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Thomas Carlyle), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Hi Chiswick Chap, now that the GAN drive is over I've been looking back towards content production. A while ago I took Hypericum sechmenii through a very thorough GA review and was able to get it promoted. The article has been stable for a while, and after a fresh look around that confirmed there isn't any additional information I've missed, I am starting to think about trying for FA. I've never gone through that process, and it honestly seems quite daunting to me. I would greatly appreciate it if you'd take just a quick glance at the article to see if it has any merit, and if it does perhaps give a few things I could take care of in advance of FAC so that it is less overwhelming. I'm skeptical that changes this sweeping are a good idea. Much of that material was sourced, and the article has now lost sourcing, meanwhile you've made it partially redundant with another article. I would try to work some of the original material back in with all its sources, and pare down the duplication. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 08:21, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
On 21 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Plant, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Aristotle classified living things based on whether they had a "sensitive soul" or, like plants, only a "vegetative soul"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Plant (2nd nomination). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Plant), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello Chiswick Chap Thank you for correcting my overly rash edit to the article on Hobbits. As the sentence stood in the lead, it made little sense, and I had not read the entire article including the section that provides the source for the list. Came back to this account for the first time this week after exactly a year and I saw your message about it for the first time today as I was looking through my talk page, as I was about to archive it. This probably isn't the best place for it, but I want to kinda explain what happened there.
I wanted to end the FAC thing starting in around March-April of 2022. I never gave out a reason for why I wanted to end the improvements, as well as I remember. Around that time, I saw "William Utermohlen", I saw how many of the attempts I thought I had made to genuinely improve the article, only for it to fail every time, I saw that, and I realised that "William Utermohlen" was very very quickly becoming "Nonmetal" 2.0 (hope you know what I mean by that), and I really didn't want that to happen. So I decided to call it quits.
When I was basically forced to withdraw there at candidate 4, I pretty much stopped paying any attention to what was happening here on Wikipedia, and I pretty much didn't care for anything about the whole Wikipedia thing. This was why I was being really slow to work on GANs. and I just completely left after a bit.
I've been thinking about trying to work on the article again after a year, I know that there's some stuff added from users that will not fit. But I have been looking back at the article for a bit, and I have realised that the article definitely doesn't work with criteria 1b (don't know if it would work for 1a either). I'm honestly a little worried about trying to return the article to FAC one more time. What if it does end up taking 10 more FACs like that Nonmetal article did? I don't know really.
So to quickly answer your question a bit too late, I just ran out of steam for everything on this website. Realmaxxver (talk) 20:31, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, reaching out about these reverts . I see my edits can be read as saying western yoga is a subset of spiritual yoga – not my intention to introduce any changes in definition. Instead wanted to make the articles not seem to elevate coined phrases; neither "yoga as exercise" nor "yoga as therapy" seem to be more than descriptive titles. Would you consider trying to draft alternative boldless first sentences (even if the bold seems appropriate to you)? Hameltion (talk | contribs) 19:30, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, just letting you know, since you've trimmed fossil groups and extra clades from Insect#Internal phylogeny, you might actually want to reconsider the sources being used for the cladogram? Sroka, Staniczek & Bechly 2014 and Prokop et al. 2017 are primarily about fossils. In particular, the former was the source for the phylogeny of the extinct groups Carbotriplurida and Bojophlebiidae as well as the use of the clade name Hydropalaeoptera (tbh this seems to be just another name for Palaeoptera, unless you counted Palaeodictyopteroidea as Palaeoptera). The latter was mainly about redefining Miomoptera and Hypoperlida as stem-Acercaria (or stem-Paraneoptera), but I see the cladogram didn't have them before your changes in the last few days anyway (so why was it included???). Hi, Chiswick Chap. One of the reasons I prefer to have editors hold off on responding to GA reviews while I am in the middle of the review is because I generally cannot complete a review in one sitting. This creates a potential for edit conflicts if you are actively responding when I come back to address a different section. The second reason is when I'm addressing a section, say source review, I might get a small way through the list, then get called away in real life and save my progress. At that point, I might have, say, four items in the list. You address the items in the list, then I come back to make more progress, and add four more items to the list. Then you come back and handle those, and later I add a couple bit more. It gives the appearance that I keep moving the goalposts after you have already addressed the concerns. Meanwhile, on one of the many readings of the article that I'm making, I might notice another item that I didn't mention in section 1b and I'll add that after you've already addressed what was listed there before. It gets confusing and frustrating for everybody. So, if you don't mind, can you please give me a couple of days to go through it before you respond? I'll finish the review by adding a final review in section 7, then I'll leave a comment that pings you so you know the ball's in your court. I'll give you plenty of time to go back through it then, then when you let me know that you've addressed everything, ping me back and I'll go through it for the next round. Another aspect of that is that when the article itself keeps changing, your edits may introduce new issues that I need to go back and address. Instead, I'm going to use a single revision of the article, here, which is the 20:20 December 26 2023 version of the article, for the rest of this first round of the review. So feel free to continue editing the article itself, it won't mess me up. Thanks RecycledPixels (talk) 18:34, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
