April 22, 7pm: ONLINE WikiWednesday Salon NYC | |
---|---|
You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-8pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop. This month, as part of Wikimedia NYC's commitment to the well-being of members, we will hold WikiWednesday online via Zoom videoconferencing! To join the meeting from your computer or smartphone, just visit this link. More information about how to connect is available on the meetup page. We look forward to seeing local Wikimedians, but would also like to invite folks from the greater New York metropolitan area (and beyond!) who might not typically be able to join us in person! This month, we've invited Esther Jackson of the New York Botanical Garden to join us for an Earth Day focused conversation. Is there a project you'd like to share? A question you'd like answered? A Wiki* skill you'd like to learn? Let us know by adding it to the agenda.
We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Wikimedia New York City Team 23:25, 21 April 2020 (UTC) | |

Hi David, I just found Mike's Revolutions. I like it so much and admire his presentation enough that I think it should stand by itself and his bio stand as another entry. If they are merged, I'm afraid that Revs would overwhelm his bio page. True, he as such a short bio that it hardly seems worth doing, but I would have Revs stand by itself. No idea how to make this comment on the page where you asked the question. Thanks.Chipnoon (talk) 14:43, 25 April 2020 (UTC)Chip Noon
Hi, I saw you listed as a mentor for FAC with interest in video games and expertise in images. I'd like to nominate the play-by-mail game Hyborian War for Featured Article, but am wondering if I have enough images, although images are challenging in this genre and this game and I'm in uncharted waters.
Would also be happy for a general peer review prior to a FA nomination if agreeable. It's a GA now, but I took an article through the FA wringer once about ten years ago and as I recall it was very different than a GA nom. Thanks for your time. Airborne84 (talk) 03:54, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello I don’t know if this is the right thing to do or not. But I been trying to get in contact with someone. On the puberty page here, they have pictures of the tanner stage which is wrong to do because the public sees this stuff, I think it is against the law to have this picture on that website but I am not sure because these pictures are old for medical purposes. But if we could take it down. That would be great or if you could get in touch with someone, that would be great. Thank you have a nice day. And I don’t know who posted those pictures Adam Peter 1994 (talk) 15:45, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
I don't understand the blanking nor your edit summary. Seems like evidence of continued problems during Arbitration is rather important. Given, Behavior during a case may also be considered by the committee in arriving at a final decision.
, where's the location to submit such evidence? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 17:28, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi David, I've made a few additional edits to the Phish page w/r/t to the GA review. I plan to do some additional work later on this week with reference formatting and some kind of legacy/influence section, but would you know of any place I should try in order to ask other editors to help out with the page? I've mostly been working at it alone for the past couple years, and I don't have a whole ton of time at the moment to go through things expediently. Doc StrangeMailboxLogbook 04:16, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Guild of Copy Editors June 2020 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since March 2020. You can unsubscribe from our mailings at any time; see below. All times and dates stated are in UTC. Current events
Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, or you know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests. Drive and blitz reports
March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Of the 51 editors who signed up, 43 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020. Outreach: To mark the 10th anniversary of our first Backlog Elimination Drive, The Signpost contributor and GOCE participant Puddleglum2.0 interviewed project coordinators and copy-editors for the journal's April WikiProject Report. The Drive and the current Election of Coordinators have also been covered in The Signpost's May News and Notes page. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

David:
In March, you nominated my Wikipedia article for deletion. In April, you were successful. Since then, I have received two grants from national arts organizations. Though the grants have not been mentioned in the press, I can provide you proof via email. Will you please consider reviewing them to restore my Wikipedia article?

David, thanks for the explanation here; so it seems that both you and Bradv are on board that the referred links should have been incorporated. I'm sorry that my misunderstanding about this has created such a kerfuffle-- I was hoping to spare you all my ten-for-one typo corrections on the case pages.
Here is a list of all of the referred pages; I don't believe Colin's pages or the FA data are subject to deletion per POLEMIC, and Bradv already substituted in three of mine, so that leaves only the one page that is of concern to Tryptofish, and three others that could become a concern for other editors.
If you all (including Maxim) are in agreement, here is my proposal for how to move those in to the case pages:
Thanks !! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:31, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

FAC Laura Harrier is currently in a standstill. One editor supported the promotion to FA status but the current editor believes the article is too short to be a Featured Article. Every Star Trek film prior to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home includes present-day review aggregation data from Rotten Tomatoes, as well as past critic references. Many popular classic films on the site, even those released before Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic's respective launches, follow the same method. I don't see the pointlessness in their inclusion. Additionally, CinemaScore was launched in 1978.
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Halo: Spartan Assault you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Hello David,
My media outlet, Smashing Interviews Magazine (smashinginterviews.com), was banned for spamming a decade ago and remains so. We were victims of ongoing hacking, which may have led to this situation. Our website is a notable media outlet and is highly cited and featured by worldwide mainstream media. This is a source of major embarassment to us; therefore, I am reaching out to you in the hopes we can have this matter reviewed and resolved.
Thank you,

Thanks for uploading File:Halo- Reach box art.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:32, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors September 2020 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2020. Current and upcoming events
September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today! Election reminder: our end-of-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 December. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. Drive and Blitz reports
June Blitz: An uncorrected typo (even copy editors make copy editing mistakes!) led to an eight-day "leap blitz" from 14 to 21 June, focusing on requests and articles tagged in May. 19 participating editors claimed 54 copy edits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: Over 750,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event, keeping pace with the previous three self-isolated drives. Of the 38 people who signed up, 30 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 16 to 22 August, we copy edited articles tagged in June and July 2020 and requests. 12 participating editors completed 37 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Baffle gab1978, Tdslk, Twofingered Typist, and first-time coordinator Puddleglum2.0. Reidgreg took a break after serving for a couple years. Thanks to everyone who participated! Hello David! I received the notification that you failed Jeannie Seely's article at the present time. First I will say, that I appreciate your critique. I have never had an administrator review one of my GA nominations before. Much of your feedback seems fair and valid. Secondly, your suggestion is that the article needs to be re-written. Are you suggesting that the entire article should be started over from scratch? Or can I simply tweak the specific sections you commented on? I was confused about that in your review. It took me nearly a month to gather the references and information needed for this article so I am rather concerned about doing a complete overhaul. ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 19:21, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Thank you today for Oxenfree, introduced: "about a video game that's a personal favorite of mine. It's got an excellent audiovisual presentation and a story that is ripped out of the 80s/90s Spielberg/high school drama tableau."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:54, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

The article BioShock: The Collection you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:BioShock: The Collection for issues which need to be addressed. Hi there, David.
I'm really interested in working towards FAC for League of Legends. It was my second GA, back in October, and I really think it’s a significantly better article than it once was (here is the article prior to my starting on it). I was speaking on the Discord earlier, and someone mentioned to me that — although very useful — PR is often just a starting point, and that it can be helpful to get someone with experience to assist in preparing for FAC, and understanding what's good practice. I'm very familiar with the FA criteria at this stage. So far, my CV is pretty limited. I started editing in the last few days of August, and have managed to promote League of Legends, the Odyssey, and Riot Games to GA. I've conducted six GARs, and participated in 2 FA reviews. Recently, I overhauled The Turn of the Screw and it’s up for GA right now.
Is a mentorship/apprenticeship the sort of thing you'd be interested in? I saw you listed under the FA mentors, and recognised your name — my first GAR was BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea — and saw your video game specialty, and thought it might be a good idea to reach out! Looking forward to hearing from you, regardless of whether or not you can assist. Best wishes! — ImaginesTigers (talk) 23:54, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
