Really? Do you think Bum (homeless person) and Past life (reincarnation) are likely search terms? - SummerPhD (talk) 03:47, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Piping and redirects. Per Link specificity above, do not use a piped link where it is possible to use a redirected term that fits well within the scope of the text. For example, let's assume the page A Dirge for Sabis is a redirect to the page The Sword of Knowledge, and while you're editing some other article, you want to add a link to A Dirge for Sabis. You may be tempted to avoid the redirect by directly linking to it with a pipe like this: A Dirge for Sabis. Instead, write simply A Dirge for Sabis and let the system handle the rest. This has the added advantage that if an article is written later about the more specific subject (in this case, A Dirge for Sabis), fewer links will need to be changed to accommodate for the new article.
Hi. When you recently edited Quiller, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cornish (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Contraceptive mandates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Zad68 (talk) 17:28, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

The article DARPA cheetah has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Zad68 (talk) 00:25, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

This month marks the observation of Pentecost, one of the most important feast of the Christian liturgical year. It is our hope here that all of you, regardless of your religious affiliation (if any), find that the holiday, and its accompanying activities, an enjoyable and beneficial experience. We also hope that this "Birthday of the Church" is one which gives you the same joy as the birthday of yourself or your loved ones.
Ichthus is the successor to the long running WikiProject Christianity newsletter, run under the WikiProject Christianity’s Outreach department. As such, you will continue to see information about our latest featured and good articles, DYKs, as well as new members who have joined our project. You might also see links to Christianity related news from the mainstream media!
With that, I wish you all happy reading!

As many of you may know, our unofficial mascot, dear Wikipe-tan, hasn't yet indicated any particular beliefs. However, yes, as we all know, ahem, some people might object to our beloved mascot running around in a French maid outfit. People do talk, you know. ;) If anyone might be able to develop an image of the dear lady in a image more, well, "Christian," I would like to see perhaps a vote for next month as to which, if any, image of the dear girl we might make our own unofficial mascot. Please post your images here.

Ichthus will spotlight a different subproject or workgroup of WikiProject Christianity. This edition will spotlight on our vital Outreach department. This comparatively small, but vital, project unit is dedicated to welcoming new editors to Wikipedia and the Christianity related content, and to providing information to the various project members, in forms like this newsletter.
The scope of articles with which this group deals is truly enormous, and, given the wide variety of material with which we deal, we would very much welcome the input of more individuals, particularly individuals who are particularly knowledgeable of the less well-known and less frequently monitored articles related to Christianity.
Speaking personally, I would be very, very gratified if we were to have this become a very, very large and active unit, with members from the broad spectrum of Christian beliefs, practices, and groups. The broader the spectrum and areas of expertise of members we have, the better we will be able to help manage the content. Please consider whether you believe you might be able to contribute in this vital area.

To an Aussie "Eastern Time" is the time zone of Queensland, NSW, Victoria & Tasmania. It was nice of you to tip us your hat in February. JIMp talk·cont 23:27, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
I'd discovered a slight problem with your {{before EDT}}, {{after EDT}}, {{before CDT}}, etc. templates. I mentioned it on the {{before EDT}} talk page. Basically, the problem is that these are based on midnight UTC rather than 2 am local time. I took the liberty of writing a replacement template. This template can do the job of the before and after templates for all the time zones in Canada & the US (could be extended to the whole Northern Hemisphere if we need it). Would you mind if the old ones were deleted? JIMp talk·cont 06:06, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
To be absolutely honest, as a resident of the Eastern Time Zone (North America) it's the only one of its kind that I care about, so Eastern Time Zone is perfectly fine. I had been changing links to point to Eastern Time Zone (North America) for the past few months to match the actual title of the article (only as part of massive cleanup, updates and improvements to articles for places), and noticed that someone had just changed it back to Eastern Time Zone. Assuming there was some edit war going on, I looked through the article history and found that there is a war going on, and that you are battling with yourself as the one editor doing all the moves. As the article is linked from thousands upon thousands of articles for places in North America, shouldn't we have some measure of stability here? Will this be changing again soon? Perhaps it should be on some kind of schedule with a handy mnemonic, like "Spring ahead to Eastern Time Zone, fall back to Eastern Time Zone (North America)? I hope that you can appreciate my confusion here. Alansohn (talk) 12:37, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

... in the statements contained in the Nicene Creed. I believe that the Bible is one of the two defining bases for belief. The other is the Sacred tradition, which provides us with means of interpreting the Scriptures, as well as some teachings which have been handed on by God outside of the scriptures. I believe that the Magisterium has been empowered to fill this interpretative function. I believe that clerical celibacy is a rule that should generally be followed. I do know quite a bit about time zones and related topics. I have an interest in the topic both personally and professionally. I've been a subscriber, reader, and occasional contributor to the project mailing list for the tz database, and in the not to distant past, I was responsible for keeping the time zone support up-to-date at a major Internet company.
"Time zone" is a bit of a slippery concept, and what it means depends on who you are talking to and in what context, but in general, the distinction you make is generally pretty accurate.
Based on my knowledge and experience with time zones, I think the change you describe is a bad one for Wikipedia. It probably does not increase accuracy (because as you point out, in the UTC offset changes in locales that observe daylight saving time), and it probably does not increase reader comprehension, at least in North America, where time zones are universally referred to by their symbolic names, and not by UTC offsets. Can you point to some examples of these kinds of edits? Have you contacted the entity responsible for these edits, to hopefully convince him to stop making these changes, and to revert the changes he's already made? Church of the month
Contest of the month
We currently have a remarkable lack of Wikipedia:Wikipedia-Books. Right now, Category:Wikipedia books on Christianity contains only 12 books. We certainly could have at least one book on each major grouping within Christianity. One of the challenges for this month, then, is working to put together books on relevant topics. For this month, one contest is for editors to assemble the basic Wikipedia books for each of the main topics of the extant related projects. When finished, they should their creation of the books at the main Christianity noticeboard, and at the end of the month the project will award barnstars to those who have made a significant efforts in developing this underdeveloped content.
Also this month, we are going to have have a challenge to create and improve some of our more important missing or low-quality articles. As biographies are often a bit easier, this month we are choosing two biographies: Karl Behm, which has yet to be started, and the currently Stub-class article Nerses IV the Gracious. A barnstar will be awarded to any editor who can get these articles up to DYK quality level and ultimately selected for the DYK section of the main page.

Given the number of significant news events that relate to religion, including claims of miracles, assignment of bishops and other religious leaders, church conferences, and other events, this site provides an excellent opportunity to provide in-depth coverage of current events at greater length than wikipedia.

We have every reason to believe that this will make it significantly easier for the Methodism work group to create and develop content relevant to Methodism. Ed. I expect you have completely forgotten about this, but there's something that has been bothering me for a long time and I feel the need to apologise to you and to try to explain myself. In 2003, when (unlike now) I was a fairly prolific contributor to Wikipedia, I made this edit to my talk page. Even to me this seems almost incredible, so you may not believe it, but those insults and the implied accusation of dishonesty in the edit summary were not in truth directed against you. I was actually trying to make a point against another person who seemed to have been closely monitoring my actions in Wikipedia and elsewhere and who had alluded insinuatingly to details from my real life. (Or so I thought. Looking back, it's distinctly possible that the whole thing was a product of my over-active imagination. I do hope so.) Anyhow, I perceived an implicit threat to my physical safety, which was disturbing to me at the time, and I may have become actually paranoid. Whatever way you look at it, it was not rational to make those comments. I really wasn't thinking straight, and bizarrely it was only when you responded (in your typical mild and genial fashion) that I realised that I had given the false impression that the comments were directed against you. But it was very awkward to explain (still is, truth be told), so I did nothing to correct that false impression. Instead, I let those unjustified insults against you stand. The accusation of dishonesty was particularly wrong, because in actual fact I had always been highly impressed by your probity. Although your opinions on almost everything seemed to be diametrically opposed to mine, at that time you were pretty much my favourite Wikipedian. This is because, unlike me, you were unfailingly friendly and polite. You were adept at using tact and humour to defuse tension between contributors. You were always ready to offer excellent advice about how to edit articles in a neutral way, even when the material being added was antipathetic to your personal beliefs. And whatever the circumstances, you were always scrupulously fair. I wish I was a bit more like you. I'm very sorry to have maligned you. Best wishes. GrahamN (talk) 03:32, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Deletion Sorting for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. –Mabeenot (talk) 06:09, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi. Your opinion is requested in this discussion.
If, like me, you're in an area that was affected by Hurricane Sandy, and are unable to reply, I hope that you have not suffered too greatly, and my best wishes go out to you. Nightscream (talk) 22:45, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
I've suggested merging Divine Principle to Unification Church. Check out my reasoning on Talk:Divine Principle and see what you think. Steve Dufour (talk) 06:08, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
