For the last two weeks, .karellian-24 and I have been running into some trouble with a certain user when we tried to edit the page of Moroccan-Dutch kickboxer Badr Hari. When I checked the talk pages of the user, I saw that you had dealt with them before. The problem is that every time .karellian-24 and I try to edit the page the other user reverts the edits. When we then try to engage in a discussion about the edits, it quickly devolves into the other user either resorting to ad hominems or just making things up.
The person in question posts under several different user names or makes anonymous edits, as can be seen here . It all started with them reverting my edits of Hari's fight record using the IP address 31.21.157.14. .karellian-24 then posted on my talk page saying that my edits made sense, only for the other user to show up and try to insult me:
"If you think that all the organisations he fought with, were using a fake record, you are dumber than your name." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.21.157.14 (talk) 18:52, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
"But you don’t know this because you are not aware of the situation and or how this sport works." - 31.21.157.14 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 01:37, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
A few days later, another user showed up with the name Atlaslion1912 who seemed to edit in exactly the same style as 31.21.157.14. Both their contribution pages show they (almost) exclusively focus on people of Moroccan descent and their talk pages show you have dealt with both of them before because of editing that goes against Wikipedia policies . The user Atlaslion1912 then proceeded to resort to ad hominems as well:
On Badr Hari's talk page: "Funny to see a Dutch guy(Rico fan) and a Romanian guy (Adegbuyi fan) speculate on something they think they have evidence for, and think they know better than the great Glory. Spend your time arguing and playing internet detectives other than someone who has a more successful career than you. The record stays and again i advice you to open a forum together and expres your emotions." Atlaslion1912 (talk) 23:21, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
When .karellian-24 asked 31.21.157.14 why they kept editing the fight record, Atlaslion1912 showed up:
"Look how proud he is on the romanian fighters hahahah. Benny has a carreer of sh*t, the same as all the other romanian fighters. Your edits on their pages are so subjective, your all are so proud because he beat Hari, but he was eating punches and only won cause Hari wanted to knock him riskfull, not like Benny or Verhoeven picking points. Proud of a nobody" Atlaslion1912 (talk) 21:49, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
I thought I'd give it a rest after all that and waited until the 29th to make my revisions once again. This time, another user by the name of Lala migos reverted my edit and when I looked at their contributions page, it looked identical to the others.
The reason I think this is one and the same person is because of the following. Atlaslion1912 stated "and again i advice you to open a forum together and expres your emotions", but that was actually a statement made earlier by 31.21.157.14. I got curious after looking at the edits they made, which were often on the pages of Dutch-Moroccan people, so I had a look at the Dutch Wikipedia. This is what I found on the page of Lala migos : the account has been suspended indefinitely and one of the IP addresses included in the ban is the original IP address this user was using when reverting my edits of Badr Hari's English page. The other accounts included in the ban have names like 'Karim1912', 'Mocrolion1', and 'Venlo1912', so I think my guess that Atlaslion1912 is yet another one of this user's accounts is not very farfetched.
I'm writing all this because you have dealt with this user before and there's so much going on here (attempted edit warring, insults, sock puppetry) that I don't know where to file the complaints. Any advice you could provide is appreciated.
Tell him about your edits, tell him why you think you are smarter than the Organisations and their records. Like i said before, for all the fighters on wikipedia, wel follow the records that are given by their organisation. We dont do an indivial research to look of we can find something wrong, because there are no evidence. Like i said before, your “evidence” consists of youtube fragments with record bars, that is not proof. Besides that, Hari's fights are not all on the internet, so how can you make a judgment if you can't get any evidence. this is not only the case with Badr Hari, fighter Peter Aerts also has fights that are not on the internet but on his record, why don't you doubt that too? why don't you go straight to all the thousands of fighters on wikipedia and research their records? As Hari himself said in an official press conference, there was no internet at that time, which is why the parties are not on the internet.
Good evening, I need your help with something if possible. I have come across an editor who is submitting edits to matches a minute or so before the game is officially finished. Once or twice it has ended up with a missing stat which occured in the final few seconds. Can you please assist me on how to go about this. I have warned them twice but had no response. Many thanks....--Skyblueshaun (talk) 19:34, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
Hello GiantSnowman! Regarding my recent edit on the Robert Sánchez article, I felt that the edit I made was necessary because the order of that paragraph leaves a reasonable amount of room for interpretation and ambiguity, especially the sentence 'He made 17 appearances, all coming in the league.' The fact that this comes after the sentence detailing his recall to Brighton seems to indicate that those 17 appearances were for Brighton in the Premier League instead of for FGR in League Two, while an alternative reading of this could lead to the interpretation that Sánchez made 17 appearances for Brighton and FGR combined. I also find the phrase 'the league' to be ambiguous, as that could reasonably be concluded to refer to either the Premier League or League Two, or both leagues.
While the infobox provides some clarity for that, I think that this paragraph itself still can be more clear as to for whom those 17 appearances were made. I'd appreciate hearing what you think now that I've elaborated on the reasons for my edit. If needed, I'd also welcome some other editors' opinions. (The reversion of the edit from Maty to Mat is more understandable to me; I've seen the latter used much more but I get it and have no problem with that particular change, or un-change.) Thanks! Benjamin112 (talk) 23:43, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi
I have rewritten the career section with references added and edited the infobox accordingly
I don't see what the big fuss is with changing time and date in the infobox. If the whole squad stats are altered whether they play or not after every match to be uniform what is the problem. Rusty1111: Talk 09:29, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
I was slightly confused by your interpretation of WP:5TILDEShere. WP:5TILDES seems like a general principle and not something that applies in every instance. As Redrose64 pointed out, WP:RFCST explicitly allows the use of five tildes when creating an RfC.
This edit removed a closing reference tag and some prose following it. Please fix your script, and always check your diffs using Show Changes before saving. Also, when {{Use dmy dates}} is present in an article, there is no need to change date formats in {{cite book}} and similar templates, since they are formatted automatically. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:37, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Are we still going by the convention that, even though a player may not have appeared for their national for (say) 4 or more years, a closing date is not added to national years unless they have announced they are no longer available for selection (or retired altogether)? An IP has been adding a closing date or year to several articles (e.g. Nathaniel Clyne) and has persisted despite being reverted and advice. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 08:04, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
OK; taking 5 (or so) years as a 'rule of thumb', might have to have a rethink about some players. Eagleash (talk) 13:23, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi, where do we stand regarding users who are editing in good faith but don't have the standard of English language required to produce encyclopaedic content? There's a relatively new user in my area of interest, and to be honest I'm spending as much time correcting the language in their edits as I am doing my own. They've even started translating articles from another wiki to English, neither of which is their first language. I want to encourage, but not at the cost of so much of my own time. Appreciate your thoughts. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 20:14, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Just to let you know that since the page protection for the Robbie Keane article was lifted on 21 January 2021, there has been some further disruptive editing. One editor has continued to add some content which is not in a neutral encyclopedic tone and there has also been some vandalism by an IP address. Please could you keep an eye on the article as a further protection measure may be needed if the disruptive editing continues. Thanks, Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 22:46, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi, like in Oscar Dorley article for actual date of statistics Im using first date after the last league match. Reason is simple, it is more easy for me to be sure, that his league statistics are actual after last league game or not. If I use same date like the date of the last match, Im not sure (for example in next week), if that match from that day is count in statistics or not. And Im sure we can talk to each other peacefully, not like "do you have crystal ball?"... Come on. Sorry for my english. User:BrckoGOS, 29 January2021, 11:15 (CET)

Wexford isn't the predecessor club of Alliance. Wexford is still a current club. Alliance is a separate club that is supported by multiple amateur clubs because it is too much for some small amateur clubs to run. It's separate but related. RedPatchBoy (talk) 17:38, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
It's part of it now, because I added it. Clubs in L1O occassionally switch organizations. Like how Oshawa Kicks was part of Durham United then switched to FC Oshawa because they are current clubs which will switch affiliations. They're more affiliates than predecessors, and can and do switch from time to time. RedPatchBoy (talk) 17:43, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
It's an affiliation, not an ownership. FC Bologna and CF Montreal are affiliates, as are New York City FC and Manchester City, as are Red Bull Salsburg and RB Leipzig. We don't list players of one as players of the other unless they play for both. So no, it's not tomato tomato. Soccer is Canada works differently than in England, we're weird that way I know, so conventions for the rest of the football world don't really work. RedPatchBoy (talk) 17:52, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
It was formed for a continued pathway for players to continue. One of the league requirements is that they need to be connected with a youth club, so those clubs helped the initial set up. Really, it's just the category that I don't feel is necessary. Why create a category for 5 players for an extremely minor club. It's unnecessary in my view. RedPatchBoy (talk) 18:03, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
I still don't think they should be connected, but I'm not going to push it, since it's not too major a detail. But on the bright side, at least my local Tier 2 league has attracted some attention from across the pond LOL. Any publicity is good publicity they say. I turned the page into a disambiguation page, because two manager templates were pointing to it. They were intending to point to Octavian Popescu (footballer, born 1938), casting some doubt on who should be the primary topic. Just looking at their qualifications, I think that someone with 15 total appearances and 1 goal might not merit being primary over someone with 222 appearances, 40 goals, and a dozen years as a manager. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:06, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Benson signed for Burnley as a senior professional player. Under the headings in the infobox it states youth career and professional career. Benson was training with the first team squad in the 2018-19 season and even appeared on the bench for the first team, how does that not merit a line in the career statistics box. If a goalkeeper has appeared on the bench for 38 games and not made an appearance, does that make it notable? Going off your logic with Benson they're shouldn't be a line for Burnley under the 2019-20 as he did not make an appearance for the first team, surely not a first team player then. I agree he was a part of the U23 squad, I watch Burnley/ every week, but according to the Burnley official website he is still an under-23 player. So it contradicts what you are trying to imply. In the infobox shouldn't it say Benson started his career with Burnley from 2020? He certainly wasn't a first team player when he went on loan to Grimsby. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nfc123 (talk • contribs)
How was he a first team player for Burnley in 2019-20? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nfc123 (talk • contribs)
I'm making the argument that you are contradicting yourself. Josh Benson and Glennon still aren't first team players they are U23 players by your logic. I've never seen you make any constructive edits on here, you just manage to piss everyone else off. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nfc123 (talk • contribs)
To be honest I just don't understand why Benson's career at Burnley says from 2019, In my eyes his senior career started in 2018. If not then surely it should say from 2020, when he went out on loan to Grimsby. The first time he was in a first team squad was in the 2018-19 season, but then this shouldn't appear in the career statistics from what you said. He wasn't in Burnley's match day squad in the 2019–20 season until the summer of 2020, after he had been on loan at Grimsby. So surely it can't be one or the other, you have to pick one rule to follow by or it's contradictory. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nfc123 (talk • contribs)
But he started his career with Grimsby in 2020, that's what I'm trying to say, why should it start in 2019? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nfc123 (talk • contribs)

Hello GiantSnowman. I need your help. Basically, in the past, I was an inexperienced editor. I made some articles without knowing they did not meet notability. Even though it hurts doing so, I am proposing my own articles for deletion because I am trying to make sure we follow our own guidelines for WP:NFOOTY. Here are all the articles that need to be deleted and why they do not meet notability: 1. Stéphane Masala - as a player, he did not play in a professional league; as a manager, he reached the Coupe de France final, but since Les Herbiers was not a team in a professional league, the 2018 Coupe de France Final against PSG is not a fully-professional match. (Unless you say otherwise, GS.) 2. Armando Monteiro (footballer) - never played in a fully-professional league. The French Division 2 was not professional until 1993 according to this, meaning this article fails WP:NFOOTY. 3. Didier Ledunois - same thing as Monteiro. 4. Patrice Py - same thing as Monteiro. 5. Dominique Delplanque - same thing as Monteiro. 6. Michel Llodra - same thing as Monteiro. 7. Alain Garillière - only played one Coupe de France match against AS Étaples, who weren't even in the French Division 2 in 1970–71. Delete this 100%. 8. Patrice Zbinden - same thing as Monteiro. 9. Thierry Carré - same thing as Monteiro. 10. Živko Lukić - I don't know if you could argue that this article passes GNG (I would really like to keep this one) but it certainly doesn't pass NFOOTY just like Monteiro doesn't. 11. Pascal Schmitt - same thing as Monteiro. 12. Fabrice Baron - never played in a fully-professional league, but similarly to Masala, he made a Coupe de France final, but the difference is Baron did as a player. Since he played for a non fully-pro club in a final, this fails NFOOTY apparently, unless someone could argue that cup finals are an exception (I don't really know.) 13. Jocelyn Merlen - same thing as Baron. 14. Grégory Deswarte - same thing as Baron. 15. Christian Montaubin - same thing as Monteiro. 16. Cédric Jandau - same thing as Baron. 17. Benoît Lestavel - same thing as Baron. 18. Réginald Becque - same thing as Baron. 19. Stéphane Canu - same thing as Baron. These are all the articles that I have created that do not meet WP:NFOOTY. I hope you know what the correct step process is to delete these articles (but for Zivko Lukic I would like to maybe argue the deletion and see if it passes GNG). Thanks for taking your time to help, GS. Happy Monday. Paul Vaurie (talk) 02:42, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey, I'm pressed for time and don't feel like re-learning Wikipedia, logging in, etc, but I was in the revision history for Charles VII of France and noticed you fixed an edit February 6th (thanks BTW). Looking through the revisions, I found the edit where this was added (Revision as of 04:54, 6 February 2021 two edits down from your own edit. I don't know if there's a way to link revisions). The IP which added this edit as you can see in the revisions was 69.170.195.92 (I don't remember how to link user pages) and was wondering if you could welcome them with one of the good faith unconstructive templates (or whatever you feel appropriate really)? The edit seems to indeed just be them adding "The end..." to the end of the article's lead section.
If not, then whatever. I don't know that I'll be able to do it later or remember to do it, but I thought I'd at least be diligent enough to leave some sort of note somewhere before the edit gets burried. That's all. Uh, I probably won't read your reply anyway so you actually don't even need to worry too much.
Fails WP:NFOOTY as neither the Dutch or Norwegian men's football leagues were 'fully professional' in the 70s/80s. No evidence of WP:GNG-level coverage in reliable sources.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Hey GS. When a person who is a former footballer and current/former manager, what would we name the article if there is another person with the same name? Say Tim Template is an Indonesian journalist, but there is another person called Tim Template who is a German former footballer and current manager. What would we name the article? Tim Template (footballer), Tim Template (footballer, born year), Tim Template (football manager), Tim Template (manager), Tim Template (football), Tim Template (German footballer), Tim Template (German football manager), Tim Template (German manager), or something else? And would it be different for former managers? Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:36, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
We've had a couple disagreements about editing practices over the past couple weeks, I just wanted to say I hope it doesn't feel like we're being antagonistic towards each other. I feel we've gotten along and been on the same for the most part. I view these as just minor disagreements (that just coincidentally happened around the same time) and hope we can still work collaboratively. Hope you feel the same way. Hi there, I can see why you took out Barry's youth games/goals, I didn't enter those, they are apparently correct though as per Soccerbase/Transfermarkt/press sources etc.. You threw the baby out with the bathwater a little as the details of his Irish U15/16 youth play are included in the existing reference from the Irish Independent. You may want to review that.
Specifically in terms of the Under-15 England stats that I added - he does not seem to have played any other games for England at U15 level other than that tournament, so that is his full record at England U15 and there are multiple sources confirming that 10 goal/5 game stat including press and WBA's official website, if you are suggesting he played other U15 games for England then presumably you need to prove that as I have provided a reliable reference for that record and can find no other evidence of U15 games for England. He was not even under contract at Celtic when the club won the League Cup in 2018 so he couldn't even make an appearance in the competition. Therefore it makes absolutely no sense to include numbers in that column. Putting in 0 for appearances would suggest he was at the club and just didn't play BUT he wasn't at the club then. Rupert1904 (talk) 21:50, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
You can't make a blanket statement that readers don't understand what a dash means. That's just totally misleading and wrong. Dashes should be used when appropriate. Weah was not at Celtic for their league cup campaign during the 2018–19 season, therefore it is wrong and inaccurate to put numbers in that column. He could not participate in that competition. It has to be a dash. Rupert1904 (talk) 21:57, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I say it and facts also say that Weah wasn't contracted to Celtic when the club competed in the League Cup in the autumn of 2018. Weah joined the club afterward so it is impossible for him to have made any appearances. A dash is used whether the club didn't compete in that competition for that season because it doesn't exist or is defunct (like the Coupe de la Ligue), or they are ineligible for European competition, or the player did not compete because they were either cup tied/ineligible or joined the club after the club won a competition or was knocked out of a competition. Do you think Martin Ødegaard's 2020–21 stats for Arsenal should have a 0 in the other column since he didn't feature for the club in the Community Shield as he joined Arsenal 6 months later? It should be a dash, just like it should be for Weah with the League Cup because neither player was eligible to play in these respective competitions for the clubs.Rupert1904 (talk) 22:09, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
How does a reader know that Weah or Ødegaard weren't eligible to play for the club in those competitions if you put a 0? Rupert1904 (talk) 17:02, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
You are completely missing the point. There's already been a discussion earlier this month on WPF about mid-season transfers and using dashes in a stats table when a player is ineligible in a competition. Many more editors are in favor of the dash over your 0s. Also, please stop deleting the continental column in Weah's stats table. It is separate than other - you've even said that yourself on WPF. Rupert1904 (talk) 18:33, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
I am not in the wrong. You are in the minority. More editors agreed that dashes should be used when a player is not eligible to play in a competition. Also, these were your exact words "Incorrect. Columns should remain intact - if the club was not eligible at all then the '0' is usually replaced with a '–' or similar." So there you said you are against columns being deleted which you kept doing on Weah. Please stop. Rupert1904 (talk) 19:12, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi GS, I was wondering if it's possible for User talk:185.99.5.147's edits to be fully reverted? I notice you saw and reverted their category edits on the Gustavo Bartelt article, but they've added them on a crap tonne of articles and a load of Argentine footballers in particular. I'd be fine reverting individually if that's the only way, though that's been made more difficult as my watchlist has been filled by loads of talkpage wp/biography edits and Primera Nacional category renaming edits. Thought I'd ask before filtering through the user's edits. RPSwp (talk) 13:18, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Klarisse de guzman satisfied more than one of the notability criteria for music. 1. subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works (none of the references are self-published) 2. has released two or more albums on a major record label (Klarisse and Klarisse de Guzman are two separate albums from mainstream record labels) 3. has won or been nominated for a major music award 4. has won first, second or third place in a major music competition (Klarisse is the first runner-up of The Voice PH; 2nd place of We Love OPM) 5. has performed music for a work of media that is notable (Klarisse sang theme songs of TV shows of ABS-CBN network) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbhpiamonte (talk • contribs) 01:26, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I've written a talk on Luna Gewitz to get the page changed to Luna Gevitz. All of the relevant links supporting this name designation (Soccerway, Club, National team) are there. It is because this is the player's passported name - and therefore official name for footballing purposes.
Care to say what you think was bad about my version of the page? I think grouping disjointed sentences about the same general idea into a paragraph is a good thing, especially when it saves 140 bytes of needless repetition. Nothing seems gained by reminding readers of his name and job in five consecutive lines; one paragraph about the same man coaching the same team in different years is enough, I think. And calling a one-day stint short in so many words seems redundant and obvious. I also liked how my version tells people which radio station he worked for (redlink or plain text). But perhaps there's also something good about vagueness and repetition I'm overlooking? InedibleHulk (talk) 14:26, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Not sure which Talk Page you prefer. Commented at mine, but to follow up, your compromise is still overly repetitive, could use pronouns; at least readers know where he works (as of 2017, anyway) and it's a paragraph. Fine by me, if it is by you, thanks for collaborating! InedibleHulk (talk) 17:30, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello GS, can you check Uruguay national football team and see if there is any problem with the infobox. I am not sure what it is, but whenever I access that page from phone, it gets opened as whole and not as section by section. I tried to find the problem by comparing the page to Brazil national football team and Argentina national football team, but I was clueless.

Hi, your edit here: this IP edited a number of Dunfermline player pages (see list). Well, I left a welcome and a message / warning at their talk page early this morning. They might not see it if they come back as a changed IP. Just got through correcting them all – I think! Some tables were badly out with both past and current seasons only partially updated. Not this IP's fault necessarily; past editors failing to complete updates. Good work on the links-in - down from 902 yesterday to 14 now (goalkeeper linksto:goalkeeper -hastemplate:goalkeeper). A final few were through the 3rd, unnamed, parameter to {{sortname}}. Colonies Chris had suggested this project at WP:BPAT. I didn't look at Portal space. Hi, trying to avoid a 3RR dispute here. I don't know exactly what you mean by reverting my edits telling to update the stats table as well. The state league caps during his Figueirense years are already stated in the table.
Consensus about including the state league caps in the infobox was reached here. And it's also stated here.
The Campeonato Catarinense is a fully-pro state league, which is the state league Figueirense plays in. Somehow it's not in the FPL list, which I already started a discussion to improve on that. But it definitely is a fully pro league, even more so than the Campeonato Paraibano, for example, which is included on the list.

Hi GiantSnowman,
You reverted my edit on Kyle Bartley regarding Fletcher Moss Rangers F.C. It's a bit difficult to establish notability if I haven't yet completed the article. WP:RED states "It is useful while editing articles to add a red link to indicate that a page will be created soon or that an article should be created for the topic because the subject is notable and verifiable. My Edit Summary states "Wikilinked (red) for future article". An article on Fletcher Moss Rangers F.C. had been delete due to copyright violations. My assumption is that someone from the club had probably copied and pasted text from the official website. I have rewritten 3 articles in the past that had previous been deleted due to copyright violations, so I am confident that it will become an established article when I have finished it. I would therefore be grateful if you would revert your own edit. Many thanks. SethWhales talk 16:18, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi there GS, long time no see! How are you?
Some other user moved this article to a draftspace and I don't really know why. When I submitted the draft for a revision, it was declined because it was "improperly sourced". I don't know why they refused this one when other state cups in Brazil are basically the same as this article, plus this one is sourced in a better way...
Do you have any inputs on that? Thanks, BRDude70 (talk) 13:59, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Evening, when you are on and have chance can you take a look at the edit summaries of this editor and perhaps fire a warning shot. Incredibly aggressive, lots of aspersions, doesn't seem to play well with others unless getting their own way. Edits are usually constructive, but very much done with a terrible tone towards other editors. Not sure if a transient IP, or a previously banned user as seems to show a lot of awareness of policy, aside from other stuff. Koncorde (talk) 22:29, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
[lurking] GS you know exactly who this is. As usual there is some concern as to self-defined 'rules' that must be followed by all (as in FOOTY threads right now) but generally edits are well intentioned – content disputes happen. What gets folks' backs up unnecessarily is the edit summaries that seem to increase in number and deteriorate in tone from enthusiastic to hysterical every so often. Is there any sort of way to limit summaries to only templates or a certain low number of characters to just prevent this getting out of control yet again? Just a quick thought. Crowsus (talk) 22:41, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
Cheers GS. I will keep an eye on them for the next few weeks, just wanted something from yourself first to reference. I don't know the history of this IP, but presume based on Crowsus this is a known editor. Koncorde (talk) 09:05, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I suspect I know who it is, but won't reveal due to WP:OUTING. GiantSnowman 12:09, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Maybe i should have been notified of this (stumbled upon the thread by accident), but hey no worries (you folks do what you have to do)! To Mr. @Koncorde: i resumed editing as an IP due to merciless stalking/monitoring of my work (by an user who has now been blocked ten times), i edited something they were there 5/10 minutes later (weeks after that, the article could be subjected to the vilest of vandalism, they could not care less). Nope, never been banned (bad news for some, maybe?), just blocked once for disruptive summaries (and i deserved it fully, per WP policies). Regarding Ricardo Ferreira's article (improved/maintained 99% by me, to everyone's satisfaction until now), looking quite odd now, with paragraphs consisting of one line and a "clarification needed" tag in the mention of his second knee injury when the reference #16 states exactly that; don't worry i'll leave article in peace (not risking another cleanup only to be summarily reverted).
Good evening to you, Mr. Snowman and @Crowsus:, apologies for wanting to help (and yes, all of you are correct regarding my occasional summaries, not trying to defend that). --85.243.89.253 (talk) 20:31, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

I am sorry to bother you, but I wanted to ask you about a deletion page for a Maltese club. (Which I see has promptly been deleted.)
I am trying to preserve the information about the clubs in the 3rd league in Malta, and I wish to rewrite and update them in the near future. I sincerely believe that they are notable and would like to have their heritage preserved, as unfortunately, many do not pay attention to domestic football in Malta.
If you could please support me in this, I would be eternally grateful to you, and I only wish to preserve this information about, as you put it, the beautiful game.
@Apple20674: I agree with you, a lot of the club articles you created show notability when you search https://timesofmalta.com, and I see stats for cups in soccerway.com and other websites. The last club I looked at made it all the way to top flight Maltese football only to fall all the way back down again. I really don't think the nominator has done WP:BEFORE. When they are mostly passing the criteria for WP:FOOTYN. This message is also for you GS. Govvy (talk) 11:52, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Jack Shreeve, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Charlton.
He was back over the weekend, with one more vandalism - changing Red Bull Brasil to Porto FC. Once again, every single one of his contributions has been vandalism. He should have bene indef blocked as a vandalism only account by now. Please block. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 07:19, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Dear mr. Giant, this article is about a greek athlete that I am very aware of his career, plus in the sources I added the actual person is talking about these career moves. So I don't think that the changes I made are disruptive in any form. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Manos H. Scorer (talk • contribs)
Hello GS. Do you think that having the disambiguation page at French Division 3 is necessary? Should I just move Draft:French Division 3 (1971–1993) to French Division 3 or French Division 3 (1971–1993)? Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:32, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Would you do the same thing for Draft:French Division 4? Should I make a disambiguation again and move it to French Division 4 (1978–1993)? Paul Vaurie (talk) 17:46, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
Hello GS. I think a block could soon be in order for User:Brainfrogk4mon. Although the mass disruptive editing that they did was yesterday, on their talk page they said that they "will not stop [...] try to free wikipedia", leading me to think they will do more vandalism/disruptive editing. Please keep on eye on this user. Thank you. Paul Vaurie (talk) 17:34, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
My trial will also be constructive. Anyway, the "disruptive editing" consisted on removing some padlocks which are mandatory according to policy. Brainfrogk4mon (talk) 07:31, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
You have reverted my edit of Alun Armstrong on his sons Luke Armstrongs page., I added Stokport County as Alun Armstrong played more games for Stockport County than the 2 other clubs mentioned, yes I am a county fan but it seemed a fair edit.
Also it is my first ever (possibly only edit) on Wikipedia and so was celebrating wildy on my zoom call.
Hopefully you will allow but I won't sulk if you dont. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C7:FF80:B500:D0F0:9DCC:D346:78CE (talk) 19:57, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
There is an (anonymous) user who has an issue with Munir having the Arabic script of his name in the lead, and keeps replacing it with the Berber script. He claims that "he is a Moroccan, he is a Berber" and "an Amazigh and Tamazight (Berber)", as a justification. I argue that, while that may be true, he has Moroccan citizenship, and, in Morocco, both IDs and passports show two scripts: Latin and Arabic. This is not a question of ethnicity or politics, rather verifiability: how can I know that the script the IP is adding (ⵎⵓⵏⵉⵔ ⴻⵍ ⵃⴰⴷⴰⴷⵉ ⵎⵓⵃⴰⵎⴻⴷ) is correct, if it doesn't even show Google results? Ideally, I would like to request semi-protection on the page; do you think there is a basis for this? Nehme1499 00:24, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
The reason I'm dubious is that I'm not sure it can be classified as vandalism - certainly not blatant and intentional. It's just that one, their IP keeps changing so it would be better to protect the page itself and two, that, while maybe in good faith, his edits are unsourced and unverifiable. Hi GS. I've gone to create a page for Koki Harada, but Wikipedia is saying there is a permission error - something to do with Draft:Kobi Arad? I'm not too sure what this means, but could you please lift the ban as an administrator? Thanks Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 19:49, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

In this edit, you removed the closing markup of hidden text in a ref template, breaking the reference and the rest of the ref list. I'm not sure if that's a bug in your date-format script or something you accidentally did manually, but thought I'd mention it to you in case it is a bug in the script. Hello GS, just wanted to know if these two drafts - Draft:Division 1 Féminine Player of the Month and Draft:List of Division 1 Féminine hat-tricks are eligible for mainspace. Since it is not a fully professional league, I am now having doubts over this matter. However, we have articles for seasons of some non professional leagues. The second draft is only 10% complete and I only want to finish it, if it is eligible for mainspace. Thought I should ask you before working on it further. Thanks! On 22 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Raoul de Gaucourt, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Raoul de Gaucourt, who fought at the Battle of Nicopolis in 1396 and the siege of Harfleur in 1415, was described as "a medieval chivalric hero whom the modern world has forgotten"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Raoul de Gaucourt. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Raoul de Gaucourt), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
The user is back at it again. The most they can say to back up the Berber spelling is "you wang a source for his name written in Berber? There are many Berber sites and keyboard to find it". Nehme1499 01:09, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Situation getting out of hand, person still removing ALL refs from the infobox and honours, writing in Google Translate-like English then accusing others of vandalism (as seen here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Microwave_Anarchist#Josu%C3%A9_Pesqueira). Also, as explained in Mr. Pesqueira's talkpage, they seem to write messages through IPs as if some other persons were supporting their point of view. Seem to have ceased introducing that nonsensical (and unref'd) style of play section, but still "super-focused" on writing about irrelevant matches (and, i cannot repeat this enough, removing the box/honours references without one word of explanation).
Please deal with this nuisance accordingly, attentively --85.243.89.253 (talk) 16:07, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
Check out the article's talkpage (I guess what is written there can constitute a form of warning) when you have a few minutes. Almost funny, if it wasn't so damn "WP:CIR"! --85.243.89.253 (talk) 16:52, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
If you notice, in the user's talkpage (cannot prove this 100% though, but maybe a bot could), the message immediately before yours is them writing to themselves (well, if it's not, the "level of English" is exactly the same; "value" meaning "article" and "corruption" instead of "vandalism")! --85.243.89.253 (talk) 16:56, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, mate. May as well resume editing with my account after this, since i seem to attract all kind of "run-ins" and "whatnots" even with an IP (for the record, can't remember if i told you this already, i went back to editing with an IP due to merciless stalking of my work by a "know-it-all" editor who, turns out (only found about this last month or so), has now been blocked for the TENTH (!) time). --85.243.89.253 (talk) 18:21, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for challenging me to improve my editing for this article. I had originally taken the information from his Italian wikipedia page it:Heinrich Schönfeld and confirmed through the it:Allenatori dell'Unione Sportiva Catanzaro 1929 page with their references (although I did not reference them in the article at the time:-( ...) Their reference for his stint between 1935-36 seems to be for a "Gorni Schoenfeld" which I suspect is the same person but I can't find any other references to confirm this. I am planning on re-editing this page with references. I will not include his second stint at the club as I can't find any further references (though I believe they are out there somewhere). Please let me know if there is any issue with following edit. Thank you for your help. —Eccy89 (talk) 11:51, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
I did not mean the Italian WAS the reference, I just meant I noticed the differences between the articles. They are properly referenced. Just a quick question before I edit, are there any rules about references in other languages? Do we need to provide a translated reference for an English wiki page?. Thanks. —Eccy89 (talk) 12:05, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi GiantSnowman,
I saw that you reverted the change to the page Ton Pattinama.
It was not supposed to be a test, however.
Every now and then I feel the urge to make small change to mainly the Dutch Wikipedia.
Maybe I don't follow the editing rules properly. I admit not having memorized them fully.
My aim was to add that category to the page Ton Pattinama. Could you show me what went wrong there?
Cheers,

Hi GiantSnowman ... I've noticed a handful of edits lately (most recently here, but also at Andrew Knapp and Rafael Marchan from my watchlist) in which you unlink the mlby template in baseball player infoboxes in the same edit as you do something else by script. I guess I am wondering why. The Baseball WikiProject consensus is that, in infoboxes, the link to the mlby template should be there. Thanks! GoPhightins! 12:39, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Whyfore the unkind edit summaries and replies directed to me over at Lyubomir Pipkov? It’s not a big deal, at least to me. Hi GiantSnowman, Thank you for updating the date formats in the Mark Selby article but I'm just wondering why you did it! I've noticed that very often editors like to manually update the dates in citations despite the fact that the {{Use dmy dates}} template up top renders it all for you automatically (see Template:Use dmy dates#Auto-formatting citation template dates) which I've always thought to be quite a neat little trick! What's your take on this? I'm only asking out of interest, you understand. Best wishes, Rodney Baggins (talk) 09:15, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Hello. Just a note, and no comment whatsoever on your general issue with Cheesy McGee. Curry did play in the League Challenge Cup, twice, and scored, as Soccerbase will confirm. The stats table in that article is pretty much rubbish (it was neither you nor Cheesy Mcgee who added it), and among its multiple errors is the listing of those apps under National Cup. I'll try and fix it later, if nobody gets there first. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:11, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi GS, could you take a look at this page; we have a source (Ian King; CPFC history 1905-2011) which states Snowdon died in 1995 and an editor who is insistent that he is till alive and according to one statement living in their parents' care home. Hugman doesn't have a DoD for him (which may be pertinent) and I can find nothing in his history at other clubs (Millwall, Portsmouth, Margate, etc.) which helps. I've explained to the other editor about sourcing and verifiability etc. but they do not seem to want to let this go saying that his family are upset. It's unusual to try and 'disprove' a source especially one regarded as pretty reliable to date. I could try to contact Ian via the CPFC BBS forum but there's no guarantee and he could easily just say, 'that's correct AFAIK'. CHeers. Eagleash (talk) 15:39, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
{{ping|Eagleash)). According to this page on Millwall's website, he was listed among a number of former players due to appear at their annual Dockers Day in 2017. ENFA have no death date either. I think perhaps the Palace chap might have been wrong. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:58, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
@Eagleash: repeat ping, cocked it up the first time. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:59, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
@Struway2: Thanks for that; 'well found'! I think on that basis I'll remove the DoD and edit accordingly. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 16:05, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
@Struway2 and Eagleash: thanks for sorting both - I agree it is most likely he is alive, given the majority of sources indicate that. GiantSnowman 16:18, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

What on earth are you on about? its entirely possible to score 3 goals in 3 games. You only have opinion that Soccerway is more accurate, no problem. But don't waste my time with more of your pointless sarcasm.Zebroski (talk) 20:58, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Oh god. Have you nothing better to do? Again, it's entirely your opinion that Soccerway is more accurate than Soccerbase. I won't respond again.Zebroski (talk) 21:11, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
GS, if I may say so this seems harsh to me. How is one to know that Soccerway is more reliable for non-league stats than Soccerbase? And how would this be a competency issue? Robby.is.on (talk) 10:01, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: this is a long-established editor who should know better, especially as this has been discussed elsewhere before, and the attitude of "that's just your opinion" when I have demonstrated empirical evidence as to why it is the case is a clear competency issue and extremely concerning. I have no comfort they will not rely on Soccerbase to add good faith but incorrect stats to BLPs. GiantSnowman 10:04, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
Hm. I didn't know this and I've been editing football articles for a long time…
As far as I can tell, the evidence you gave was the issue at hand. (it's clearly shown by this very issue and it's clearly demonstrated by empirical evidence, like in this example) which seems a bit like a circular argument: Why is it bad to use Soccerbase in this example? → Soccerbase is always bad because it's bad in this example.
I would reckon the knowledge you have about the difference between the sources stems from your vast experience here and discussions at WP:FOOTY and "elsewhere" that Zebroski may well have missed. Robby.is.on (talk) 10:15, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
Well at least now you both know;) GiantSnowman 10:16, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
Hilarious. One last time... you have not evidenced in any way that Soccerway is a more accurate source (though I asked you to) or commented previously that this issue has been discussed and decided elsewhere (when/where?). As far as I'm aware it is your opinion and as I said - no problem, I'm not bothered either way. I have a long history of valid updates to Wiki and I've accepted your edit (3 goals in 18 games Soccerway) to my edit (I changed 0 goals in 0 games to 3 goals in 3 games as per Soccerbase). Mine was a minor sourced edit which you agree was in good faith. Now you threaten to escalate because I have pointed out that either source could be correct and you are butt hurt that your 'authority' is questioned. My concern is your uncalled for sarcastic, insulting, and threatening comments contrary to Wiki rules in order to discourage and bully good faith editors. You do not own Wiki. In support of the collaborative objectives of Wiki your apology would be appropriate, though not likely. No doubt you'll now target my future edits. Seriously, just stop wasting my and your time. I won't respond again.Zebroski (talk) 10:55, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
@Zebroski: I'll respond here given you keep removing my posts from your page, and given that Robby is involved here. Soccerway is clearly more accurate here, it has all the matches that THF played (which can be verified by independent match reports/official website etc.) Sccerbase only has the games he scored in, for some reason. Why can you fail to see that therefore Soccerbase is inaccurate for non-league? I can give you many more similar examples if you need it. But it is the fact that you seem to accept Soccerbase as gospel in the situations that is my concern now, because it means that you will continue to add incorrect stats to BLPs. That is a major problem. PS saying "I won't respond again" multiple times weakens your stance... GiantSnowman 11:00, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
Dear god. As you refused to address my question and escalated this trivia I responded - how does that weaken my stance? hilarious. I have no stance, I just asked you to explain why Soccerway is a better source than Soccerbase. I never claimed "Soccerbase as gospel" or even that it's more accurate than any other source. Again, I accepted your edit based on Soccerway at the outset stating 'no problem'. What kick do you get picking trivial fights that adds no value to wiki on minor edits? If you had said at the outset Soccerway has "all the matches that THF played (which can be verified by independent match reports/official website etc.)" at the outset that would have been polite and at least made some sense instead of your sarcasm, insults and threats. Your comments that you know best and the poster should know better will only ever raise more questions, however important you think you are. I won't bother editing non league again. Well done discouraging Wiki contributors.Zebroski (talk) 11:51, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
@Zebroski: I think you're being over-dramatic. All I have needed is an acknowledgment that you understand the issues and realise that Soccerway is a better source for non-league stats. That is all, which if I squint I now kind of have from you. Please do not be put off editing non-league, you make some good edits, and I have always said that this edit in question was good faith. GiantSnowman 11:57, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
Nice try. Your pretentious sarcasm, insults and threats were deliberately intended to demean and provoke. Then you tried to engage others in bullying - to their credit they didn't. Your polite explanation is all that was ever required.Zebroski (talk) 16:27, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

The page is about Peter, not his parents. There is only one source that states his parents nationality and it isn't relevant. His nationality of Australia is already in the article. Henanton (talk) 20:17, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Is it possible to restore the history of my user page (from 23 December 2020 to the present day) while leaving the old versions that indicated where I currently live invisible? I ask this because I had asked for an oversight of certain versions of my user page but due to fear of being unclear I had not explained myself properly. DrSalvus 19:58, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
The MOS is supposed to be used as a reference point and not set in stone. It's not the 10 commandments handed down from the wikipedia god. You shouldn't just blindly follow things. Why don't you ever think for yourself and make constructive edits rather than follow me around every single day and revert me? You need to take me to dinner if you're going to be doing this. It makes absolutely zero sense to include 6 blank stat lines for Ike Ugbo with Chelsea. He's never even been given a number with the senior squad, let alone even made the bench so it's factually inaccurate and misleading to include all those blank rows. Especially as the majority of his loans have started during pre-season. Using your logic, why don't you add a blank 2020–21 row with Atletico Madrid to Álvaro Morata's career stats table while he has been on loan with Juventus? Rupert1904 (talk) 06:25, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
Hey, what do we do about stubs like this? The page obviously can be fleshed out, but we should probably discourage creation of stubs in that state without getting fleshed out a little bit.--Ortizesp (talk) 17:45, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

You know, GiantSnowman. In my opinion, I feel that you don't take into a lot of consideration on the references I added to expand the article by any means necessary. I sacrificed my time just to edit Mohammed Abu and Gregory van der Wiel. I feel that you never regularly edited both of these articles until I intervened and change a lot that you couldn't accept.
I always feel that you remove references without taking a consideration. I would be fine if you look at the references on the article and restore it back on the article.

It's just that since it's an account with 10+ years, 30k edits, no blocks, and no recent "official" warnings - I thought that step should be there. Hi, it looks like this sockpuppet is back it again. He has never gone away, he kept editing with IP dresses but now it looks like he got a new account. This seems to be his new account. This account has done very similar edits that were done by "Ronalditos58815738". Creating articles, editing roster sections, and getting the same type of warnings in the user talk page. This user has also been asking other users to help him create more articles. He has done this with various IP addresses in the past. Here are some examples: ,
Hi Giant Snowman. You recently !voted in Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2021 May 28#File:Saruta Kogyo SC logo.PNG and I've got a question about something you did. You add a "delsort" template to that discussion and the use of such templates is something I've been wondering about for a long time. I did ask about it a few years back at Wikipedia talk:Files for discussion/Archive 8#Delsort tags, but I've never seen a delsort template actually used by anyone unitl you did in that FFD. The two files that I nominated for discussion had no file talk pages until I added WikiProject banners to them, and I'm assuming that it was the FOOTY banner that led to the file for the team's logo showing up on one of FOOTY's project subpages.
Many files which end up nominated for discussion at FFD, tagged for speedy or prodded for deletion often don't have a talk page; so, in many cases the uploader (who might no longer be around) ends up being the only person notified. I personally try to use things like {{ffdc}} and {{Deletable image-caption}} when I can in an article, and also try to add at least one WikiProject banner to the talk pages for files I nominate for discussion/deletion, but some do only the bare minimum (i.e. what's required) and in some cases notification is only optional.
Anyway, while I know that not every WikiProject has a delsort template, most of the more active ones (like FOOTY) seem to do so and there seems to me that it would be a good idea to start using this at FFD as well whenever possible. I've started another discussion about this at WT:FFD#Delsort tags revisted and since you're the first person I've come across to actually use this template, I think your reasons for doing so would be interesting to know. I think it would also be interesting because you're also an administrator and might be able to discuss thigs from that perspective as well. I've mentioned you by name in that discussion; so, I'm just posting this here to sort of let you know why. For what it's worth, this has nothing to do with the non-free use of those two file or the reasons why you !voted a particular way. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:19, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I see you made this edit on Lil Loaded, per MOS:DATEFORMAT. Could I ask the reason for this edit? Was it the fact the cite date was expressed numerically or was it something else? Thank you for reminding me of the lack of source here - Match fixing in association football#China. But I think it's [[WP:OVERCITE|not that we must add [1] On this player signing release, it mentions all 4 of those other players had re-signed with Forest, but no mention of Preston.[2] And he has now been removed from all Forest squad pages, namely the U23's page.[3] Fine to wait for a solid source saying 100% he's left, but probably won't see that until he signs elsewhere, which I suspect is a better idea. UncleTupelo1 (talk) 14:33, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
after every sentence]], it's about WP:Verifiability. And they're extremely easily verifiable if you can just go to the BLP articles of those referees and players involved in the scandals (Lu Jun, Gong Jianping, Shen Si, Jiang Jin, Qi Hong, Li Ming), or the articles for the scandals (2003–2009 Chinese football match-fixing scandals and 2001 Chinese football match-fixing scandal), you'll find exactly the same, and well-sourced sentences describing their conviction in the lead section and/or "Match-fixing" section (or of other name), these convictions are obvious facts and are really unlikely to be challenged.
And these two setences: "From 2009 to 2011, a large-scale 2009–2013 investigation by the Ministry of Public Security of China revealed many match-fixing scandals that occured mainly between 2003 and 2009 in Chinese top-two tier leagues. As a result, Shanghai Shenhua F.C. was stripped of their 2003 top-tier league title." that do not involve a living person, were also reverted. Again, you can go to the articles Shanghai Shenhua F.C., 2003 Chinese Jia-A League or 2003–2009 Chinese football match-fixing scandals to find related details and sources, and it is really really hard to imagine anyone could possibly and blatantly challenge the fact "Shanghai Shenhua F.C. was stripped of their 2003 top-tier league title", which is just a big big fact.
I also think it's similar to MOS:LEADCITE (lead section usually repeats information that is in the body, so it's common editors do not add or add few <ref> in the lead). What I put in Match fixing in association football#China, are some copy-and-pasted sentences from their articles.
Yes, scandals are controversial, and everyone has opinions, but the fact that "these people have been arrested and sentenced", is just objective fact and not controversial and unlikely to be challenged - there might be a few people defending or sympathizing with the convicted, but you won't expect anyone sane saying: "No, these people have never been arrested and sentenced".
I've added <ref> after every sentence there but next time please ask yourself if it is similar to MOS:LEADCITE, if it is unlikely to be challenged, if you have at least tried to verify it but unable to do so, if what you want to revert is some sentences instead of all the paragraph, if you can use {{citation needed}} instead of reverting, etc. Thanks. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 20:59, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.
It really has nothing to do with WP:WIKIPEDIAISNOTARELIABLESOURCE but might be a little similar to MOS:LEADCITE.
However, yeah, I agree that '"there are adequate sources elsewhere on Wikipedia" is not good enough' in most cases per WP:Summary style#Technique that I've just read (and you should've quoted this instead of WP:WIKIPEDIAISNOTARELIABLESOURCE). WP:Summary style#Technique seems to describe the exact situation we have in Match fixing in association football#China which is a summary of the two main articles. I quote here: "Each article on Wikipedia must be able to stand alone as a self-contained unit (exceptions noted herein)."
But again, there's really many content added without inline ref everyday. Some content is subjectif, obviously controversial and deserves to be reverted. Other content, that is usually objective, not that controversial and unlikely to be challenged, does not deserve immediate reverting. Otherwise, why does {{CN}} even exist if we don't use it, and why not just deploy a bot to revert (or add {{CN}} after) every newly added sentence without inline ref. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 20:20, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

I hope that you get my reply to your Enquiries regarding source of my edits. This was covered in my edit pages under comments.
I’m any case, I am the son of Walter Zakaluzny (note correct spelling), not Walt Zakaluzny. The only changes made were to the correct spelling of my Father’s surnames in both the English and Ukrainian languages. I also correct the spelling of Peresyshl which is the correct Ukrainian pronunciation. Please note that, as noted, my Father passed away in 2013.

Hello GS, this is about a draft I made. I created Draft:Bernd Schipmann on 29 April. I didnt move it to mainspace as the player didnt meet WP:NFOOTY back then. However, another editor created an article (Bernd Schipmann) on the same player 4 days after this. So, I am not sure what I am supposed to do with the draft now. What would be the right thing to do? Hi GS, my edit removing the club nationality section was reverted, but the information is uncited. Are reliable sources collating clubs this way? What do you think? Eldumpo (talk) 22:10, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
Nationality thing
Hi, in relation to the above, not wanting to argue about it or anything but is there any link to a specific consensus as to when one apples and one doesn't? So that I can point others (and myself) the right way if we are taking it out when we should keep it, or adding hyphonated nationalities etc that should be left out. Is there a set cut-off? I mean both Sterling and Ogbene moved to the country the played for when they were children, but they were still eligible for their birth nation until they became ineligible through selection (in Ogbene's case, last week). I would certainly never say Sterling is Jamaican and not English but I would describe him as English and Jamaican. For Ogbene, this ref suggests he was not eligible for Ireland until 2020, so until then was only Nigerian in the footballing world, though again obviously I would say he lived in Ireland for 10 years of his childhood and so is Irish. The categories have both nationalities, although I fully realise they use the 'maximum possible' of characteristics. I'm hoping there will be some kind of definition on the site as to when this should and should not be used. Crowsus (talk) 10:57, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Yeah fine, he is Irish. But I'm looking for the discussion that led to this general rule being adopted. Crowsus (talk) 11:52, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
OK. Just seems a bit dodgy that if he had chosen to play for Nigeria, we would be going down the Jon McLaughlin (footballer) route of born there + plays for = "Is a Nigerian footballer", even though we've agreed he was considered Irish even before he confirmed he wanted to play for Ireland. But I'll try to bear that in mind. Crowsus (talk) 05:58, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Unsourced articles
Thanks for your explanation, I'll impose higher standards in terms of inline sources on what I write and edit on Wikipedia from now on.
I've just randomly checked some Euro 2020 referees and found tons of unsourced sentences and paragraphs (that are not in the lead sections, or are in the lead section but clearly do not repeat the information in the body therefore fail MOS:LEADCITE). I'm not sure if you want all of them removed immediately per WP:V "Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed" instead of keeping them / using {{CN}} or other templates:
(I listed the exact sentences and paragraphs for the first one. For the other articles I didn't do it but it's very easy to spot the unsourced sentences and paragraphs in them)
Sorry it sounds a little whataboutism but Euro 2020 is an ongoing high-profile event and these referees' articles may have far higher traffic than usual so if you feel unsourced sentences in BLP should be removed then we should do it immediately. Thanks. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 09:50, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
I'm not sure if you have tried to source the info in Match fixing in association football which itself is not BLP. But yeah fine OK. We'll remove all the unsourced info in these referee articles then. By the way, hours ago I've reverted two edits that added unsourced and likely fake "new club" information of Sergio Ramos. One of them has even tricked BBC and was reported by them"Ramos to Hadleigh... Sergio Ramos' wikipedia page has been updated and if it's accurate then he may just be about to sign for a side in the Eastern Counties League in Suffolk. We'll get a call in to the lads at Hadleigh United to see if it's true. We're not sure he will fit into their wage structure but who knows." Please maybe apply WP:ECP if such edit continues. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 10:28, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

There's been quite a bit of back and forth at several {possibly ex-) player articles over the last few weeks with 3 or 4 editors reverting GF edits regarding the out-of-contract players. It seems to me that until there is a 'released' statement issued by the club, a player signs elsewhere or (possibly, in some cases) retires that the articles might not be changed for the time being. The managerial situation is such that there may be no player developments until a new man is appointed. FWIW as of this moment all the players thought to be leaving are still included on the website. Eagleash (talk) 00:03, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I understand about when player contracts end etc. The issue here is that there has not been a statement issued by the club as to who has actually been released. Usually, Palace do so at some point after the final game, (but before 30 June). I think some editors have used the 'not-retained' list issued in May by the premier league to decide on who has been released. This I believe includes all players whose contracts are up, as a matter of course and is issued about 6 weeks before the season ends. None of the changes made by various editors have provided a source. So, do we go by the premier league list and consider those named thereon to be free-agents (until shown to be otherwise) or wait until there are official announcements from the club? It's an unusual situation in a way, for there to be so many players out of contract and with no-one to make decisions. Eagleash (talk) 10:47, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, I agree, until official from the club, should notg be changed; especially as the wbsite still lists them as players. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 11:36, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
"First article" claim?
This is the first time I come across this, as my area of "expertise" is pretty niche. However, this is one of the few cases a Lebanese player's article gets created on the basis of him debuting in a fully-pro league, rather than the NT, which means that there are more editors looking to create his article. I had already created a draft in my own userspace for Tony Mikhael back in January. RedPatch made his draft on 12 June. I asked him if I could publish the article from my own draft, and he kindly agreed. A few minutes after his debut, QQ2NFLD created his article (obviously not knowing about the multiple drafts). I know this is all "minor", but as a fellow editor with multiple drafts in-queue, you might have also gone through this exact situation. What's the best solution here? Nehme1499 01:28, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Apologies for that, previously people weren't making CPL player articles at all, so I sort of create them on autopilot once they become notable. You did everything right, the solution is for me to not be a dumbass and double-check for existing drafts in future. QQ2NFLD (talk) 01:35, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
@QQ2NFLD: It's not your fault; Wikipedia should really make a clearer system for people to know that there is already a draft for an article you are creating. I would have done the same thing. Nehme1499 08:53, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi all - it happens frequently, and yes while it would be preferable to check for drafts (even in user space), I know it's not always noticed. If all three parties are happy/want to - @Nehme1499, RedPatch, and QQ2NFLD: - I can merge the histories of the drafts into mainspace? There's not actually much parallel history so it should be fine. GiantSnowman 09:33, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm happy with this solution. In case this were to happen again, should I request a history merge at WP:RFHM (after having asked the relevant editor(s))? Nehme1499 09:36, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Yep, exactly - or you can just ask me again;) - as soon as RedPatch and QQ2NFLD have commented I'll do it. GiantSnowman 11:45, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm good with whatever. I'm more just marveling at the happy coincidence that three of us independently had proper articles ready for his debut where our niche areas collided. Don't think that happens too often. I also would've never checked for other drafts. RedPatch (talk) 12:47, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Sounds good, go for it. QQ2NFLD (talk) 12:49, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
@Nehme1499, RedPatch, and QQ2NFLD:Done - I think the 'live' article version is Nehme's, that is not a comment on which is 'right' or 'wrong' or anything like that - so I'll leave you to edit as appropriate. GiantSnowman 13:24, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Did I miss an RFC somewhere? Do we no longer add Soccerway and Soccerbase links to articles? If so, there's a lot of editing that needs to be done. Domeditrix (talk) 15:05, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
You're going to have to help me on what 'valid' is. I was under the impression that if a source is in the list of references, it shouldn't be in the external links section. But you've now reverted an edit where I removed two external links that do appear in the ref list. Domeditrix (talk) 20:06, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Technical news
IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

JOSEF BICAN
It's obviously that you don't know the reserve teams of the past: they were part of the structure of the club and played in different league than the first team. This happened to all major clubs around the world as happens today with the big football clubs (Barcelona for example has B and C team). Alfredo di Stefano for example started from the third team of River Plate and then promoted to the reserve team and finally in the first team. The only reason why this is not well known is because the interest is focused on Bican stats. The goals of Bican with the reserve team of Rapid are included in the 643 goals UEFA and IFFHS recognised in 2000. So they are OFFICIAL DOMESTIC LEAGUE GOALS. Thank you. Premier League template
Once again I am unsure why you can't ask a question without displaying your sarcasm. The clubs I have edited are not currently in the Premier League and almost all of the FORMER Premier League clubs stated in the template do not include this template on their page as is the convention. Similarly clubs in other football leagues do not include the template for leagues that they were previously in, as is the convention. Further, I am unsure why you have reverted my valid corrections without discussion, please do not do so again. Further, I am unsure why you are still stalking me and wasting my and your time with this trivia as I have previously told you not to. Once again, you do not own Wikipedia and your harassment and discouragement of valid contributors is in breach of wiki guidelines. Please stop.Pwimageglow (talk) 10:31, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
There is no reason to remove former clubs from the Premier League template (or other league templates). There is no reason to link every mention of every wiki page to every mention in every other article in Wiki. The precedent is already set that 'Current League' is the only template included on the club page for hundreds of clubs. There is nothing to discuss. Please stop wasting my time on this trivia. Pwimageglow (talk) 10:39, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Nonsense - good luck adding the template every league that every club has ever been in to hundreds of Club's pages. As I said, the precedent is set and nothing to discuss. ps you need to re-read WP:BRD... The BOLD, revert, discuss cycle (BRD) is an optional method of reaching consensus... Care and diplomacy should be exercised... Consider reverting only when necessary... BRD does not encourage reverting —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pwimageglow (talk • contribs)
PS There was no disruption, just valid correction to met the established precedent. Please learn to stop harassing contributors with your trivial, sarcastic and childish nonsense.Pwimageglow (talk) 10:56, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) If I were you Pwimageglow, I'd quit while I was behind. As you know, GiantSnowman wasn't the only editor to revert your mass edits which you made with no consensus. By all means head to WT:FOOTBALL to get some consensus for your approach, but in the meantime, respect the status quo until such a time there's a clear mandate to change it. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 11:37, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
If I were you The Rambling Man I'd consider your User page statement "Don't let anyone bully you away from contributing whatever you like, however you want. Stay strong and don't be dissuaded." What childish nonsense is "quit while you're behind". All the evidence I've listed above proves I was only compliant to the established precedent and convention. The issue is trivial and I really couldn't be bothered to waste any more time. If you think adding every league template to every club that has ever been in every league crack on but its obviously ludicrous to even discuss further. More importantly the abuse of good faith contributors contrary to wiki guidelines is unnecessary.Pwimageglow (talk) 11:59, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Indeed, I agree you should contribute whatever you like, but not against consensus. There's no "abuse of good faith editors", I just reverted your unnecessary change to the Ipswich article and suggested you got consensus before making masses of edits. Cheers though, and goodbye. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 12:01, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Again The Rambling Man, I was compliant with established precedent/convention and there's no alternative consensus that I was against, as evidenced above. Again, it was not "masses of edits" as the vast majority of clubs do not have previous league templates on their pages. ps don't forget to add EFL Championship to the Ipswich Town page and any other leagues they were in during their long history. Ludicrous.Pwimageglow (talk) 12:16, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Error Um: I was compliant with established precedent/convention and there's no alternative consensus that I was against, as evidenced above. Again, it was not "masses of edits" as the vast majority of clubs do not have previous league templates on their pages.Pwimageglow (talk) 13:15, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Haha. Again, I needed no such consensus. Your pointless illogical 'consensus' gang is you and Snowman. Go fill in every league for every club you childish bullies.Pwimageglow (talk) 13:35, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Chill out with the personal attacks. I just told you, there's no consensus for your changes, of which I reverted one and then followed your kind advice by adding the Championship template to Ipswich's page as well. Cheers! The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 13:51, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Haha, I just told you I needed no such consensus. You are so pleased to get your way on this pointless trivia despite all logic and facts, hilarious. Go fill in every league for every club, bully.Pwimageglow (talk) 14:00, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
@The Rambling Man: many thanks for your comments, and for your revert on Ipswich. My revert on the Blackpool page was also 'thanked' by @Seasider53:, which I presume is support for the restoration of the template? In which case it is clearly 3 editors saying the template are valid, and only one (@Pwimageglow:) seeking removal... GiantSnowman 12:26, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Yet again - not my point. Again, you are stubborn to your original opinion despite all the evidence to the contrary proving you wrong. My point again, is the precedent is already set so unless you intend to create a new precedent by adding all previous leagues to all clubs (which is ludicous) my correction on a small number of clubs pages that are not in line with the vast majority of Clubs.Pwimageglow (talk) 13:12, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Yes. While I don't necessarily see why somebody would find themselves navigating directly between articles of former Premier League teams, if a team is a listed in the template, the template should be on the relevant team's page. Seasider53 (talk) 12:56, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Again, including previous leagues template on Club pages is currently the case on a tiny% of clubs. The precedent is NOT to do this. Good luck amending every club to include every previous league they've been in for their entire history.Pwimageglow (talk) 13:04, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Precedents tend not to mean much on Wikipedia. When I don't think things make sense, I have to rely on what the majority think. As such, have you brought it up at WT:Football yet? Seasider53 (talk) 13:09, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, that's not true, precedents and convention are quoted as justification on Wiki regularly. I really can't be bothered to raise it for debate because, as i said, adding every league template to every club they've ever been in to wiki is clearly ludicrous, will never happen and not worth anyone's time to even discuss.Pwimageglow (talk) 13:29, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
@Pwimageglow: - you have been told now by three editors that your edits were wrong. You keep referring to 'consensus' but have not presented any to support your position. Your intransigence is becoming a WP:IDHT/WP:STICK/WP:CIR issue. Accept our position, and move on - failing which, should you disruptively edit again, yon will be blocked. PS please do not reply here again - if you want to continue this discussion then I suggest you do it at a central venue, like I suggested to you a few hours ago... GiantSnowman 15:15, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Haha. YOUR intransigence is becoming a WP:IDHT/WP:STICK/WP:CIR issue. Three editors is not consensus (only Seasider presented polite open points for discussion). I have only corrected your/their erroneous points and, again, I've referred to precedent, consistency and common sense. I have told the three editors that they are wrong and explained why. Nor does it matter how many editors have an alternate opinion, every wiki contributor is entitled to present their opinion whenever they wish despite your pretentious childish threats - you do not own Wiki. As I said at the outset I've no intention of wasting time on this trivia - go fill in every league template for the hundreds of clubs (It'll never happen) and stop stalking me, I couldn't care less. I do care about your sarcasm, threats and bullying contrary to Wiki rules. I explained all my reasoning to you in my first message (above) in response to your first sarcastic threatening message. Again, you need to re-read WP:BRD... The BOLD, revert, discuss cycle (BRD) is an optional method of reaching consensus... Care and diplomacy should be exercised... Consider reverting only when necessary... BRD does not encourage reverting. I told you at the outset to stop wasting my and your time so I've no idea why you keep messaging me to pick a pointless online fight. But of course I will respond to your sarcasm, threats and bullying. Do not contact me again, as I told you at the outset.Pwimageglow (talk) 17:16, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) is this even still being discussed? Mass removal of templates without consensus was unwelcome by numerous editors. The response has been hostile and futile (e.g. "you childish bullies", "go fill in every league template for the hundreds of clubs" etc) I suggest a line is drawn under this as if this kind of response continues then one imagines a case at ANI will sort things out once and for all. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 17:20, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
So STOP then! If you misrepresent reality over and over again then I have to correct you. Jeez not again, I've corrected you multiple times that it wasn't mass removal of templates as almost all clubs DO NOT have previous league templates so it was a tiny% of clubs I edited hence consensus was not needed. Also it was "unwelcome" by three editors not "numerous" as you claim. Your response has been hostile and futile from the outset "I'd quit while I was behind" and then you insist multiple times there's a consensus to include every league template in hundreds of clubs pages. There's not (3 editors) and it will never happen anyway so it's irrelevant what you think and I DON'T CARE. As I said at the outset, STOP wasting my and your time with trivia and silly threats.Pwimageglow (talk) 17:49, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
In the time you've spent all this time railing, I've got a couple of GAs promoted and a DYK ready to go, all about the game we love. I think your approach here has been way below sub-optimal, and I hope you can improve it if you wish to continue. There's no "trivia or silly threats", just hope and improvement to Wikipedia. I don't consider "I'd quit while I was behind" to be "hostile and futile" in any way, it was good advice as it turns out. I don't know what you do here but good luck with it going forward. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 18:00, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
As I said from the outset - STOP wasting my and your time. In the time you've spent all this time railing I've built a garden wall. I think your approach here has been way below sub-optimal, and I hope you can improve it if you wish to continue. I have a long history of valid Wiki amendments and page creation and I don't care what bullies think.Pwimageglow (talk) 18:11, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
It's a win-win! Wikipedia has benefited from your edits being removed and you've built (at least) one wall. Brilliant, so no need to pursue this pointless debate. I'm heading back to improve Wikipedia. Good luck building whatever you're building next (not on Wikipedia of course!) And in light of GiantSnowman's note below, I won't be responding to you here further. Goodbye. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 18:22, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
@Pwimageglow: - I clearly said above "please do not reply here again - if you want to continue this discussion then I suggest you do it at a central venue". So why did you reply? Oh and I know you have just said "Do not contact me again, as I told you at the outset", but you're the one who contacted me after the matter had seemingly ended, so you obviously haven't let it go. Either way, this is the end of it - I will archive this chat shortly. You have been informed by multiple editors as to the de-merits of your edits, so please be aware that should you repeat them you will be reported and we will be seeking a block for disruptive editing and incompetence. Article Review
Seeking your input on a particular article that I feel does not meet the notability requirements for podcasts. I have watched and attempted to tag this article numerous times for notability, conflict of interest, advertising, etc. Since I know the individuals who run this podcast, another editor feels I have some sort of vendetta against them. I personally feel the value of the article is weak at best for the Wiki. Would you mind taking a glance and letting me know your thoughts? I appreciate your time and guidance. Hello Giantsnowman; I just saw a new article called RoundGlass Punjab. This made me wonder happened to the old article. On checking the deletion log I founded you deleted Punjab FC on May 5 under G6. Could you please explain me why. I feel like something weird is happening here. Importantly the complete history of article is changed. Punjab FC is not founded on 2020. It was founded as Minerva Punjab in 2004. It only got renamed in 2020 after RoundGlass took over it. Something is happening here similar to ATK (football club) and ATK Mohun Bagan FC. Can you specify me what exactly was the reason?. Thanks-- Poppifiedtalk 06:47, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Medals for Firmino
Hi; why did you remove the medals for Firmino? Almost every other player has them. Was there a discussion and consensus on this that I'm not aware of? Because many good articles still have them listed.
Thanks,
Messirulez (talk) 17:35, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
I never said there was one, I was just asking why or if there had been one, as usually we adhere to guidelines and the manual of style, which currently includes medals in the infoboxes, to try and keep articles consistent...I was asking in case there was something I wasn't aware of or if I had been doing something incorrectly, so there's no need to be rude. Messirulez (talk) 23:44, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi, where is the discussion relative to co-ownerships/loans? Nehme1499 15:31, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Exactly: between 2013 and 2015 he was a Juventus player loaned to Sassuolo. Sassuolo then proceeded to buy the player outright from Juventus in 2015. Nehme1499 15:46, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
The edit added the following sourced statement: "On 25 June 2015 Sassuolo bought back Berardi for €10 million". Nehme1499 15:58, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Nope. The edit itself is contradictory. The edit to the infobox does not reflect the sourced sentence added. I've opened a discussion in the talk page. Nehme1499

Australian data edit for Steve McLelland
A request was made to provide references to the edits I made for Steve McLelland, a Scottish footballer who played in Australia with Green Gully. I have used two individual sources for this player's record, Aussie Footballers and the Victorian League archive on OzFootball, which relies on research conducted by John Punshon (a statistician in Victoria for almost 30 years). Can you explain why this edit has been reverted?
Kingkewell (talk) 22:02, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
The record on Aussie Footballer is not incomplete. The records on Aussie Footballers for Australian players only include the top tier, ie. the NSL or A-League. Green Gully only ever played in the top flight for the years listed. The remaining years were in the Victorian State League (effectively, the Australian second tier), hence why I have included the references for the seasons where McLelland player for Green Gully in the State League. His appearances are a combined tally of what appears in each of those season files, plus his national league record with Gully.

Sockpuppets (or friends)?
Hi, can you take a look at this discussion for deletion? The last two votes (Admosb and Sambein) seem suspiciously from the same person (or maybe friends of Saimari, who is the creator of the article being discussed). Both haven't made an edit since October of last year (almost a year), so it's super weird that their first edit in nine months is at an AfD. Nehme1499 16:43, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
The vote by "Moody2019" seems to fall in the same category. Also the wording of "Not delete" instead of "Keep" in all cases is suspicious. --SuperJew (talk) 08:07, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
@Nehme1499 and SuperJew: in fairness that could be different editors simply copying the formatting/wording of the first 'do not delete' !votes, but doubtful... GiantSnowman 09:58, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm leaning more towards the 3-4 being friends and knowing each other, rather than them all being the same person. Though, the effect is the same, as they are exploiting their "friendship" to influence discussions. Nehme1499 14:29, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

Discussion on Romanian football
Hello, as you may already be familiar with, FCSB lost the Steaua honours from 1947-2003. Also, the sports club lost the honours between 1998 and 2003 and now they are considered three(!) different entities. Bankruptcies and founding of new clubs are something common in Romania. My favourite team itself, FC Petrolul Ploiesti, was refounded twice in the last twenty years and now it has lost its right to use the trademark.
What I am trying to say is, I wish there could be a discussion with the Football administrators on Wikipedia in regards to honours and continuity of the clubs, and create a guideline or something like that when these things happen. If we take what Wikipedia people and the Romanian court law say we should have like triple the number of Romanian football clubs pages on Wikipedia. Can we make this in some kind of bigger dicussion on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football?8Dodo8 (talk·contribs) 13:34, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Does this new user remind you of anyone? They have been rapidly moving articles and creating new articles (and templates and categories) since they started editing on June 14. They can't be a new user, but this is hardly a subject area I'm good at.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:20, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
That's helped. I think that Margheret, Lilianasri, and probably User:Motuca (stale) are socks belonging to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Mhsohaib. For more evidence, see the last entry in the archive for Special:Contributions/62.149.77.128/27. Some of the IPs in that range are still editing this month, e.g., Special:Contributions/62.149.77.151, and the overlap of that IP with the named editors is quite telling. Before I take action - and I haven't decided what action yet - I'd welcome input on the socking. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:57, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Here's another stale one: User:Nawafmashea. The more I dig into the history of these accounts, the more I find. The IP range alone has gotten away with a breathtaking amount of block evasion.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:11, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
I have reopened the SPI and blocked Margheret while waiting for a CU. I would appreciate it if the users here, who are more knowledgeable than I, would clean up the necessary, e.g., reversing moves, tagging articles for deletion per WP:G5, etc. If you believe that something the account did, although reversible, is constructive, then leave it alone, at least for the moment.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:59, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
I don't read Arabic and have no knowledge of how it's transliterated into English, so wouldn't be able to tell if the moves were good or bad. Only noticed Lilianasri (and the IP mentioned above) when cleaning up infoboxes. Many of the clubs and players they edit are pretty obscure... What's normally done these days with article creations? do we G5 them automatically to discourage the others? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:12, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
I can G5 the new articles on my own. It's the moves I'm concerned with. Can we rely on Soccerway? I noticed in one move that they provide the name of the player in English.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:48, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
It's a reliable source. I believe User:Nehme1499 is fluent in Arabic, so he might be more help if he's about. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:55, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
@Nehme1499: Sorry I'm lost, what Arabic source are we talking about? Nehme1499 13:06, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
@Nehme1499: Margheret made a great many moves. Because the account is a sock, all those moves are technically reversible. However, I don't normally reverse sock moves unless it's very clear to me that the move was a bad one. I asked other editors to review the moves and reverse those that are bad because I don't feel qualified in this instance to do so. Struway2 said that fluency in Arabic would be helpful and recommended that you help. (I believe you meant to ping Struway2 and instead pinged yourself.:-) ) --Bbb23 (talk) 13:52, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
@Bbb23: Ahh got it. Most of their moves seem fine. In the end, we should be following reliable sources (in latin script) do decide what their name is. For example Hassan Chaito and Hassan Chaitou have the same exact name in Arabic, but they are transliterated differently. It shouldn't be up to me to decide whether a specific player should be named "Khaled" or "Khalid"; we should be looking at reliable sources. Nehme1499 13:58, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
@Nehme1499: Thanks for looking at the moves. Apparently, soccerway is a reliable source; are there others? Also, isn't it possible that two different reliable sources could support different transliterations? In any event, given my editing habits, it seems unlikely I'll ever be involved in something like this again, and, if I am, let's hope I remember what I've been told.:-) --Bbb23 (talk) 15:17, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
@Bbb23, Struway2, and Nehme1499: sorry guys, late to this, was out yesterday. Looks to be under control though? FWIW I don't recognise any of the edits/editors, although there is an occasional editor who does C&P moves of related pages and who might be related? Can't for the life of me remember the name unfortunately but I'll let you know if/when I next come across them. GiantSnowman 09:44, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Like I've already said, if you had looked closely at the edit you undid, you would see it wasn't just the layout I had changed, there was also a few factual edits.
The reason I changed the layout is because every clubs website lists their players by position then by number. The way Wikipedia lists them is antiquated (it's been the same layout since 2006).
Also, why did you remove all of the U-21 tags from certain players? I take it you're not a football fan? The reason the U-21 tag is listed next to the players who are aged 21 or under is because a team is allowed a squad of 25 players, which is made up of players aged over 21 and all loan players, any player aged 21 and under who is signed to that club does not count towards the 25.
It also looks like someone didn't agree with you removing the date of when a load ended as they've (quite rightly) been put back.
Here's the edit you undid. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Blackpool_F.C.&diff=1035916593&oldid=1035910696Smithy53 (talk) 12:53, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Why did you remove my edit??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aaal2000 (talk • contribs)
Source #4, which i mentioned in summary (Las Provincias), says he is/was a "Spanish-French striker", so i assumed it was enough. The ABC ref which i now inserted mentions he moved to Elche first in a "cesión" (loan) move. Was about to add another one (https://www.informacion.es/deportes/2007/07/08/club-informa-lukasiewicz-manolo-perez-7631105.html), mentioning he was then loaned to Levante B, but i see you can not care less about my improvements so i leave piece exactly as it is (i apologise sincerely for reinstating the category, but i honestly thought with what i had read in source #4 it would be enough).
Sorry for the inconvenience(s), continue the good work --193.137.135.2 (talk) 11:42, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
Done! The source i added reads "Otro de los descartados es el delantero francés Philippe Toledo, que, a PRÉSTAMO..." (meaning "Another one of the released is French forward Philippe Toledo, who, ON LOAN..."). Could not have been any clearer, if this still is not enough, then, my wiki-friend... --193.137.135.2 (talk) 12:38, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
Indeed! The former mentions a "cesión" from Zaragoza to Elche which may be kind of shady (so to speak), but the "préstamo" from Elche to Levante is definitely a loan! The BDFUTBOL source also adds more to his full name, which you removed, but ball not on my court anymore;)
Thanks back! For the record, the IP from this morning is from my workplace. I used to have an also-static one at home, but now, for reasons that elude me (not doing this to avoid any scrutiny, no sir), every time i turn the computer on, i am given a new one. --2001:8A0:7667:5801:4DE3:1D26:B7FE:9193 (talk) 16:20, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
Formatting
Hello. Thought we shouldn't be trying to communicate via edit summary late in the evening, so here I am.
As to Josh Andrews and dashes in the totals row. The reasoning is, if you're summarising/totalling a column that contains nothing but "not-applicable" dashes, it doesn't make sense to format the total cell as if it's a count of matches the player could have played in but didn't. As to "we do not have dashes in the totals", that doesn't square with widespread usage: there are any number of high-profile footballer pages on which we do–Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappé, Haaland, Kane, Lukaku, ... None of which are anything to do with me, as far as I can remember. If you do want to take it further, it probably needs doing at WT:FOOTY rather than here or on the talk page of a fairly obscure player.
As to the Robertses on the squad template, I didn't realise we had a standard way of doing it: can you point me at wherever that's been agreed, or at examples? I thought (and still do think) that using their names was clear, and certainly clearer for the reader than Ma. and Mi. at small font size. But if that's demonstrably the standard method, I'll follow it. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:49, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
Agree entirely: there are any number of footballer pages that use dashes in the season rows but not the totals rows, and any number that don't use dashes at all–I was surprised that the first five high-profile pages I looked at did it "my" way. The style guide doesn't address the question of what to do in the totals. Pending wider discussion, then, I'll restore Mr Andrews' original formatting.
I'll leave the squad template how it is: I've had a root round old squad lists, and found another couple that use abbreviated forenames, and one of mine from 14 years ago that introduced full first names, so at least I was being consistent... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:45, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
Common history article for clubs asserting the same history
Hey, I don't know if you have checked the RfC I added about the FC Steaua Bucuresti issue with the honours. Some users suggested creating a common history article for FCSB and CSA Steaua București (football). I suggest actually adapting the current History of FC Steaua Bucuresti article to the way I created History of Universitatea Craiova (football club); there is a similar situation between these Craiova teams. If you consider this inappropiate you may propose the deletion of the common Craiova article, I don'w want to be called a vandal again.8Dodo8 (talk·contribs) 13:45, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Respectfully, it is not that simple. Following the fall of communism in Romania all thr clubs became private (hence new entities) and bankruptcies are something usual nowadays. My club FC Petrolul Ploiești was already refounded twice only during this century, but always considered the same club. Do you really think having 10 articles is the solution to this issue?8Dodo8 (talk·contribs) 14:50, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Mairin Mitchell: nationality
Hi GiantSnowman. This is a very tricky question! For her nationality in the lead, I don’t think “English” or “British” will do. You mentioned WP:MOSETHNICITY, which says “The opening paragraph should usually provide context for the activities that made the person notable. In most modern-day cases, this will be the country, region, or territory, where the person is a citizen, national, or permanent resident; or, if the person is notable mainly for past events, where the person was a citizen, national, or permanent resident when the person became notable.” But clearly most is not all. Mitchell was born and brought up in England but identified as Irish, and wrote from an Irish point of view. The dust-jackets of some of her books say she is “an Irishwoman”, and she wrote to Orwell to say she was Irish and not English. Once or twice she called herself “London-Irish”. I was using “Anglo-Irish” because the Mitchell family was clearly that, and it seems to square the circle. So if you don’t object I’ll revert to that. Moonraker (talk) 17:02, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

"College soccer seasons do not merit separate articles"
Saw your note here. I'd be interested in further elaboration. I tend to side with your viewpoint, however it appears that there are *many* collegiate soccer season articles that currently exist (I should know, I went through all the DI men's soccer ones just recently), and even more redirects which seem pointless. My loose interpretation of WP:NSEASONS for bullet point 3 is that if a collegiate team is playing Division I soccer and makes the NCAA tournament, then it should qualify for an article as the guideline is currently written. As such, I've left those articles to exist out there. I'd be interested if you view it any differently or if I'm interpreting correctly. GauchoDude (talk) 17:48, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I have noticed an editor adding total caps & goals to infoboxes where (usually in the later career) the figures are not clear / empty. An example was at Alan Woan (which I have removed) and also at Fred Dawes. Seems to me, totals should not be added in these circumstances and have never done so myself because of the inaccuracy. Also at Woan, his youth career parameters have been amended to include school football? I would have thought that this should probably only contain information relating to a youth career which occurred at a club which (also) competes at 'senior' level? Cheers. ntupdate
I seem to think we've discussed this before, but I don't get your insistence on replacing |nationalteam-update= with the long deprecated |ntupdate=. If you feel the latter is better, why not raise it at an appropriate venue and seek consensus for change, rather than go against what is laid out in the template documentation and has been the established format for over a decade? Mattythewhite (talk) 22:53, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

@Mattythewhite and Robby.is.on: I don't get your insistence on re-formatting the entire infobox against the long established article style (which also happens to be the same as the template documentation). Hi GiantSnowman, I noticed that you used a script to change the date format in access dates (Gao Yan (politician)). While I am not opposed to that edit since it doesn't really change much and is not a big deal, I was wondering if I misunderstood the MOS; the script is meant to fix MOS:DATEFORMAT issues but that guideline states that Access and archive dates in an article's citations should all use the same format, which may be: the format used for publication dates in the article (see above); the format expected in the citation style adopted in the article; or yyyy-mm-dd (under the consistency section), then gives an example of Jones, J. (20 September 2008) ... Retrieved 2009-02-05. being valid. So in my view I didn't see an issue with the existing dates in the article, but evidently the script did. Can you confirm if it was an issue or not? (The main reason I'm asking is because I used that format when referencing for several other articles as well and will change it if it is an issue.) Thanks, eviolite(talk) 19:03, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I assume good faith edits, re Ibou Touray. However Toxteth is not the person's place of
birth this will be Liverpool. Babydoll9799 (talk) 10:10, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
In response, people are categoratised in to places where they're from or it might be more specific. Such as 'footballers from Liverpool'. When I say where they are from this is the city, or town. I've removed places like West Derby or Toxteth because this is Liverpool; within the city boundary.
Besides, on the page of each area, the people who are from the area or lived in the area are noted already. I don't see the need to add another page like this. The chief place they're from is the city of birth which is Liverpool. The local area where they are from will have it noted on the persons page and also vice versa the person will be noted on the area page where they are from. Rather than just Undo'ing people edit, please try to understand that I am trying to improve a page and make its format on the same level as that of other articles.
I've clearly wasting my time in messaging you for any little bit of guidance in the matter. When a player's entire first season in professional football is basically summed up into 2 lines and you say call that "we" are "this and that", then I realise that this is a pointless discussion. Thank you for educating me on the subject my good sir!. Dextertron 20:00, 03 November 2021 (UTC)

Could you look at SilverWolf2323454545964's edits, particularly their page creations? I just deleted some pages as hoaxes, at least based on my searches. Hello GS! With 86 international goals, Le Sommer is all time top scorer of France (both men & women). Few weeks ago, I made List of international goals scored by Eugénie Le Sommer, as per the consensus we have in WP:FOOTY.
However, a user who reviewed this article redirected it to Eugénie Le Sommer yesterday with [edit summary] (France men's top scorer Thierry Henry have a seperate article by scoring 51 goals btw). Considering she scored 86 goals, the article had more than 15000 characters in it.
I believe List of international goals scored by Eugénie Le Sommer deserves to be a standalone article as per the consensus, but I have no idea how to recover the article or remove the redirect tag. Hope you can help. Thanks! Kokoeist (talk) 02:55, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi GiantSnowman! Thanks for the tweaks you made to tune up Kobe Shoji. I think I agree on balance with your edit here, but please be cautious about marking edits like that as minor, i.e. could never reasonably be contested. MOS:ETHNICITY has an exception for instances where ethnicity "is relevant to the subject's notability", which is very plausibly true for Shoji, given his internment and military service in a Japanese-American regiment, so I was on the fence about whether to include it. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jacob Desvarieux requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://amisny.org/legends-jacob-desvarieux/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. GS, can you please engage in conversation with @Ampimd: (i ping them so that they can reply here should they see it fit)? I tried to convince the editor in question that the aforementioned player did not win the 2010–11 Segunda División with Real Betis (zero matches played, mostly assigned to the reserve team), to no avail. Soccerway (the link they used to prove me wrong) gives (some) honours to players regardless of their merit, which is 100% the case here; i added a source to the honours section, but of course he's not mentioned at all in that news article (in none for that matter in my web search).
Attentively, thanks in advance for whatever you can provide (and if the guidelines on honours have changed unbeknownst to me, i present my sincere apologies to you and Ampimd; but last time i checked, players can get a medal if they are on the bench of a cup final but not if they don't play AT ALL in the domestic league) --193.137.135.2 (talk) 10:30, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
I feel you are being biased here 193.137.135.2 You should have mentioned all the things I pointed out to you. I mentioned that, you did not engage in a conversation with me, you however attacked me indirectly via the summary which I brought your attention to it and felt like it was really unnecessary and uncalled for. I rather came to your talk page and started a conversation and pointed out your error, you still felt like I had committed an error but later apologized. I mentioned that Brimah Razak according to the statistics, was a part of the team, he was on the bench as the back-up goalkeeper for 8 league matches including the final match of the season against Villareal. I still have not seen any rules in terms of the matches you need to be able to get the honour of winning the Segunda Division. Unlike the Premier League where the rules and match limits have been indicated. In this case I also pointed our Marc Ter Stegen's comparison. I am aware he was on the bench for more than 8 league matches, however its quite similar. You could have had a conversation with me not quote me in summary and also attack me. Kindly note that I also edited the article and tried to restructure it after I realized some discrepancies, if you have realized same, no problem. The article is not my personal property, its community work. Cheers. Have a wonderful day. Ampimd (talk) 11:24, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
@Ampimd: 1 - I ALREADY apologised for the edit summary (and for the record i did not INSULT or ATTACK you, i used an expletive which is 100% different, please don't accuse me of things i have not done!), can't do nothing more regarding that if you don't want to accept my apologies (or do you want me blocked?); 2 - i tried to continue the conversation at your talk page, you did not say anything else in THREE days so i came here for mediation; and i had the courtesy of pinging your name here so that you would come to the discussion OK? --193.137.135.2 (talk) 11:30, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Neither did I say in that statement that you did not apologize nor that I have not accepted an apology. All I am saying is next time please avoid such. No need to put those things in there. I also acknowledged your work in cleaning up the article when I came to your talk page, that is why I said Wikipedia is a community, that is what makes articles better. I edit, you edit it better, and the next person also does better, eventually the article improves. I did not respond to the messages on my talk page, neither did I go back to the article to edit. I have given my reasons above and my issues. That's it for now. Ampimd (talk) 11:44, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, let's wait to see if this administrator has anything to add. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 11:56, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Easy GS (and i apologise for taking the issue to your page, never instilled the habit in me to converse in article's talkpages, my bad): after the aforementioned user and i did not reach any consensus at their page, i came to you for mediation as an admin. In my book (and i think WP:FOOTY's one), a player who does not play any matches in a domestic league does not merit a medal, SW gives such honour to a player just for the fact they were part of the squad.
I would like to know what's your intake on that, if you please --193.137.135.2 (talk) 09:29, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
@Ampimd and 193.137.135.2: we rely on reliable sources. What do reliable sources say? GiantSnowman 18:31, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
The other user involved in this was notified much sooner than me (has edited since your last post), IPs are not aware of pings. They chose not to contribute more, fair enough. If the honour stays i don't have any problem with that, even tough i feel it should not for the reasons presented (and i believe you are aware, GS – has been said repeatedly at WP:FOOTY if i'm not mistaken – that SW sometimes gets honours wrong).
Attentively, to both you and Ampimd --193.137.135.2 (talk) 12:30, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
Hey GS, I've created this article for Ferran Jutglà after his debut earlier this month with Barcelona. I initially put his youth years at Espanyol from 2012-2017, with his senior career starting on loan at Sant Andreu in 2017.1 It has since been edited otherwise, and I was wondering what you felt would be the best way to format it? Thanks Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 15:24, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

I saw your edit in the article, and I'm not sure if we should remove the Sant Andreu youth period. According to the ref of his Valencia transfer, they mention him as a player of the Juvenil A (youth) team... What are your thoughts about it?

ok, if you say so, keep it this way and wait for a correction from soccerway..i know what my own eyes see, i am a big fan of the club so i travel and watch all of the team's games. Ogkboe has scored one goal against Apollon Larissa (2-0) for the second match day at 16' and two more goals against Apollon Pontou (1-3) two weeks before, (match day 7 at 28' and 37' minute). PS: He has also scored two more goals for the Greek Cup against Apollon Larissa (0-3, 26/9/2021). Merry Christmas! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tsobek (talk • contribs)
I know what to include when updating the player stats. Ogkboe has already scored 3 goals in the domestic league (Super League Greece 2) and 2 more in the Greek Cup that are not included. If soccerway ever will do the correct update (7apps, 3 goals) i expect an apology from you! So far, you are wrong! Best wishes!

Various IPs (identical edits) have been disrupting Rizespor player articles for several months now; not updating timestamps or tables where they exist and EWarring over Wikilinking of countries. Today's edits are here and the two previous most recent IP lists are here and here. All of these have been reverted by Robby.is.on, Larry Hockett or myself (others too, I think). Today's disruption was continued even after Larry left a message at the IP talk page and they have been warned several times at other TPs as well. I believe I can find other IP addresses used as well. It would need possible blocking of several ranges to prevent. It needs to stop; can you assist? Cheers.
