I am new to contributing to Wikipedia and learning quickly. I appreciate the input received and would like to have a chance to work up a more encyclopedic article on a person from Ottawa. If I mistakenly created a second article, that was not my intention rather I wanted to edit what was there. Can I get this article restored so I may do the editing according to the guidelines? Sorry I didn't list my sources. I'll cite in the future. I'll try to add more info as well. 11kowrom 20:41, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
It looks like your RfA is going to go through smoothly, so allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your promotion! Please ask if you have any questions about admin status. (aeropagitica) 00:45, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Congratz on getting the mop and bucket! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. (contact me cuz i'm cooler than those noobs above) --Nishkid64 18:05, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Very good. I hope the advanced buttons will serve you well on this project as we further this adventure. Enjoy them - you have earned them. JungleCat talk/contrib 03:30, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, you're wrong when you said "memory alpha is GFDL just like we are" when removing the speedy tag from Isolytic subspace weapons, please see the Memory Alpha article. The lead paragraph says :-
"The contents of Memory Alpha are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial license. Because this license does not allow commercial reuse, it is incompatible with the GFDL, and material from the site cannot be copied into projects that use the GFDL."
Accordingly I will be restoring the speedy deletion tag momentarily. Thankyou. I do however find it mildly disturbing that a Wikipedia Administrator was unaware of this. exolon 16:28, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for defending my user page! :) Jacek Kendysz 13:31, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm very flattered that you asked for my input! I'm not even a week old as an admin. The creator of that article previously submitted a vanity piece which was deleted. In that article (Oskar manning), he put the same thing in at the end of it. I'd say indefblock him as a vandal-only account. I'd then post about it on WP:AN because, while it's most likely a childish prank, it is a threat, and one of the more seasoned admins can provide more information. -- Merope Talk 15:12, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi,
The user had no previous blocks, and only a light warning on Oskar Manning; he also had, however, no useful contributions. I have blocked him for a week with a very stern warning -- I wouldn't object to an indef. block, but bear in mind that it is possible to convert many a mischief school-kid to a useful Wikipedian, hence my leniency. Death threats are gross violations and are, IMO, blockable offenses even if there has been no prior warning. Best wishes, Xoloz 15:28, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
My pleasure...congrats. PJM 11:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Just wanted to send a quick note of thanks for your support in my RfA. I really appreciate it! :-) On a side note, I was wondering what you meant when you said you disagree with my "notability work"? I'm not quite sure what you mean by that term. Was it something on AfD? I meant to ask you that before because I was quite curious, but it slipped my mind. Best, Irongargoyle 01:57, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Anyway, that's somewhat what I was talking about. But, as I said, it wasn't, and isn't, enough in my opinion to even be neutral. You seem to do awesome (and often thankless) work here, and I was more than happy to support : )
Hope that clarifies. If not, feel free to ask. (Your page is now "watched" : ) - jc37 21:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi Irongargoyle, I wanted to get back to you about the edit my bot made. Note that my link to Cats looks the same as Cats. It is a feature in the meadiwiki system, and I believe it also works with Cated, however much sense that makes, and others. Thanks! ST47Talk 18:49, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

That's a very pertinent question you asked! My one concern is whether in the heat of battle, she'd stick to her answer, which is why I asked question 6. Otherwise, she appears to have a lot of potential as an admin. --A. B. 14:45, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your question, as it's definitely an issue that many people seem to have concerns about. I have answered on the RfA page, and am also copy/pasting the question and answer here for your own records (since that page is getting really long):
If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask! :) --Elonka 07:35, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
(followup) Thank you for participating in my recent RfA. Unfortunately consensus was not reached, and the nomination was not successful. I do, however, appreciate that you took the time to comment, and I did pay close attention to your thoughts, as I do find it a valuable thing to understand how I am perceived by others in the Wikipedia community. Now that the RfA is closed, I plan to continue supporting the Wikipedia project, just as I did before the RfA. And if there is anything that I can do in the future to help further address your concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. --Elonka 07:22, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for contributing to my RFA. Unfortunately it failed (final tally 26/17/3). As a result of the concerns raised in my RFA, I intend to undergo coaching, get involved in the welcoming committee and try to further improve the quality of my contributions to AFD and RFA. I just wanted to thank you for your support in my recent request for adminship, which passed unanimously with a final tally of 38/0/0. I appreciate your trust, and will do my best to uphold it. Don't hesitate to let me know if you ever need anything. — TKD::Talk 05:49, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your support in my RfA, which passed with a final tally of (56/0/2). It was great to see so much kind support from such competent editors and administrators as commented on my RfA.
I know I have much reading to do before I'll feel comfortable enough to use some of the more powerful admin tools, so I'll get right to it. |
...for your kind words and support during my recent RfA. I especially take pride in your praise of my answers, as grad students are always in full-on analytical mode and are often the best gauge of quality writing (I finished my MA a couple years ago). I was reading over Kingboyk's talk page in curiousity to see if he ever replied to my appeal to my block appeal. I was a little disappointed to see my comment without a reply, but when I scrolled down a few comments, I saw this. I was greatly touched by the kind gesture of PMC and yourself defending me on that issue. For that kindness and dedication to your work, I award you the Barnstar of Extraordinary Kindness. Recently I was messing with User:Sporks.Are.Loverly as a joke and it was taken as vandalism. I'm sorry, I can see why that would come across as vandalism. I guess I'll have to refrain from little pranks like that. 74.140.212.215 13:54, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring what was vandalized. There is just too much of that everywhere in Wikipedia, so my suggestion is to do a lockout of people who are not registered, i.e. if they got just an IP addy, they can't edit. Or at the very least, a semi-protected mode for the page in question. Carajou 21:54, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Exactly why was my old username (iv_admin20) blocked? It said it was rude or inflammatory. I expect an explanation right now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by R varner20 (talk • contribs)
Sure thing. While I'll admit some personal bias — I love that site — trying to push that as something for speedy deletion didn't make any sense. Do let me know if he (she?) moves it to an AfD. Tijuana Brass 02:10, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:3deadmal2.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Wouldn't the [[[List of defunct retailers of the United States]] be a closer fit in WikiProject Retailing rather than Dead Malls? That article seems to be right on target for Retailing, as it's about the retail companies. Dead Malls is about the venues more than the stores itself, therefore I don't think it's a great match.
Thought I'd throw that by you and see what you think. SchuminWeb (Talk) 05:51, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading Image:RACER 1lg.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 20:05, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:BlueStreak CLP.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 20:18, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ultimatelightwater.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 20:27, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
