Hello JGHowes,
I am an employee of Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens and see that you contributed the cemetery's previous logo in 2008. Our logo changed several years ago and I wanted to see if and how the new logo could appear on the Wikipedia page. I appreciate your time and any insight you might provide. Thank you. Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.
|
This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:53, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions; administrators found failing to have adequately done so
will not be resysopped automatically. All current administrators have been notified of this change.

The sad news was the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings. The Top 6 most popular articles about People in WikiProject Christianity were:
... that the first attempt to build the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra resulted in the demolition of the nearly completed structure?
Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral is a Gothic Revival three-spire cathedral in the city of Cork, Ireland. It belongs to the Church of Ireland and was completed in 1879. The cathedral is located on the south side of the River Lee, on ground that has been a place of worship since the 7th century, and is dedicated to Finbarr of Cork, patron saint of the city. It was once in the Diocese of Cork; it is now one of the three cathedrals in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin. Christian use of the site dates back to a 7th-century AD monastery, which according to legend was founded by Finbarr of Cork. The entrances contain the figures of over a dozen biblical figures, capped by a tympanum showing a Resurrection scene.

A suicide attack on July 11th claimed by Islamic State (IS) near a church in the Syrian city of Qamishli shows that Christians remain a major target of the terror group. The Top 6 most popular articles about People in WikiProject Christianity were:
When God Writes Your Love Story: The Ultimate Approach to Guy/Girl Relationships is a 1999 book by Eric and Leslie Ludy, an American married couple. After becoming a bestseller on the Christian book market, the book was republished in 2004 and then revised and expanded in 2009. It tells the story of the authors' first meeting, courtship, and marriage. The authors advise single people not to be physically or emotionally intimate with others, but to wait for the spouse that God has planned for them.
The book is divided into five sections and sixteen chapters. Each chapter is written from the perspective of one of the two authors; nine are by Eric, while Leslie wrote seven, as well as the introduction. The Ludys argue that one's love life should be both guided by and subordinate to one's relationship with God. Leslie writes that God offers new beginnings to formerly unchaste or sexually abused individuals.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

A tag has been placed on Category:BlackBerry-related templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Good morning,
I was involved in the AfD for Wesley Weber. It was closed as no consensus due to "BLP1E concerns expressed by others". I write to you because I think that it was clearly shown that BLP1E did not apply. One of the editors defending it changed the !vote to keep and the other one did not answer. It was shown that none of the 3 conditions of BLP1E applied, and the policy requires for all three to be met before it can be used as a valid reason. The editor that finally changed the !vote stated himself that the 1st was not met. When I showed that that was reason enough to not meet the policy there was no argument by him or by any of the other editors. The original delete !votes that did not change ignored the requests by myself and the relisting admin to answer again after the changes.
I know that no consensus and keep have the same practical effects, but I just want to make sure that I have not misinterpreted WP:BLP1E. If there are no policy based reasons for its deletion I think it would be positive for the AfD to reflect it. I had to put in a lot of work to save the article, I would like to avoid having to invest more time in the future on this, as I suspect that the blanking by various IPs that brought the article to my attention and the nomination by a new account were aimed at removing sourced information about the subject. If I'm right, I expect that they will try again in the future. Regards, --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 10:33, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

I am not being paid nor am I paying anyone to contribute this page to Wikipedia. Absolutely nobody is being paid. The photographer Lisa Gizara is a friend. She informed me that the page was being held back due to possible payments...I assure you this is false.
It appears that the subject is the only actor without a Wikipedia page link in a variety of films and television project including the upcoming Bombshell film which has garnered much attention as this actor plays a well-known role.
Can we please finally post the page. I've addressed the proper issues that caused the initial rejection. And added further proper legitimate, highly respected references to confirm its validity.TC2018 (talk) 21:03, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
Hello. I am writing in regard to the AfD for the Dilla Massacre article that you have recently closed due to lack of consensus. I am requesting for the AfD to be relisted for a longer period of time in order to reach consensus. The reason being is that the keep editors have not brought forth policy-based arguments that support the article. On the other hand, many of the delete editors have noted that the page does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, this is evident in lack of significant coverage in reliable sources (e.g. , , , ), as outlined by editors in the discussion). Furthermore, I have also illustrated in the AfD how the sources used in the article do not support the article’s notability. And lastly, many of the sources used are not scholarly and fail to meet WP:RS. Relisting the AfD for a longer period of time would allow additional contributions by editors and would help reach consensus one way or another. Koodbuur (talk) 20:55, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
massacre is neither supported in reliable sources nor has received significant coverage. Hence, a no consensus outcome seemed appropriate in light of the divergence of opinion among the participants. JGHowes talk 13:25, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
TC2018 has been banned from Wikipedia after the amendments JGHowes made to the page assuming that you are a paid contributor...which is NOT true. We do not know each other...
Is there anything you can do to post the page?...it's obvious, as this actor is the only one without a page in 4 major projects.

A Song for Simeon, is a 37-line poem written in 1928 by American-English poet T. S. Eliot (1888–1965). It is one of five poems that Eliot contributed to the Ariel poems series of 38 pamphlets by several authors published by Faber and Gwyer. "A Song for Simeon" was the sixteenth in the series and included an illustration by avant garde artist Edward McKnight Kauffer. The poem's narrative echoes the text of the Nunc dimittis, a liturgical prayer for Compline from the Gospel passage. Eliot introduces literary allusions to earlier writers Lancelot Andrewes, Dante Alighieri and St. John of the Cross. Critics have debated whether Eliot's depiction of Simeon is a negative portrayal of a Jewish figure and evidence of anti-Semitism on Eliot's part.

Looking at the delete votes, all (except 1) concern "no references". This was true initially, but then work was done to improve the sourcing (a lot), after which everyone went with Keep (except 1). The question is why the delete votes carried weight once the sourcing was so dramatically improved. The Delete vote that wasn't RS-based, "not suitable for an article" is an assertion without explanation/rationale, but also showing by this stage there was no more debate regarding sourcing. What did you see in the delete votes that gave you pause and thus a no consensus? -- GreenC 03:12, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello JGHowes,
Concerning the recent AfD Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Laurel_Schwulst, there have been 5 delete votes versus 6 keep votes. If excluding IP votes and single-purpose accounts, gives 4 delete and 3 keep.
I know AfD is not a poll, but even when considering the discussion, the keep votes seem to involve more detail than the delete ones.
In such circumstance, do you mind if I ask why the AfD was closed as "delete" rather than "no consensus"?

Hi, you recently closed Miami New Drama as a Keep. The requirements as per WP:NCORP are for multiple sources (at least two) of significant coverage with in-depth information *on the company* and (this bit is important!) containing "Independent Content". "Independent content", in order to count towards establishing notability, must include original and independent opinion, analysis, investigation, and fact checking that are clearly attributable to a source unaffiliated to the subject. None of the references in the article meet the criteria. I engaged on the AfD page and provided an analysis of the references, nobody took issue with anything specific beyond a vague "you're making stuff up" rebuttal. Nobody provided any links to references that they believed may meet the criteria either. Can you take another look at the AfD and provide me with your reasoning as to why you believe the arguments put forward to Keep the article justify your decision? Thank you! I have discovered new source material from a local newspaper, freely available from the State Historical Society via newspapers.com. What needs to be done to un-delete the page? Or should I just start a new one? Jmac64755 (talk) 05:29, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
I've managed to find some free images of SN operations - see here, here, and here - so I don't think we can justify a fair use image. However, it's a very nice image, and it's entirely possible that it does actually qualify as public domain. Is there a copyright notice on the magazine? If there is, what's the title and author of the article? If it doesn't appear in renewal records for 1977 and 1978, then it can safely be assumed to be PD. Hi, I wonder if you would consider relisting this discussion? Over at WikiProject Chess there is a feeling that there are enough offline sources to meet GNG. I think the debate could benefit from some more input. Thanks, -- P-K3 (talk) 14:11, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for the barnstar. I am still spending time on wikipedia almost every day. I gave up being at admin, as I was not sure at the age of 81 that I could fully trust my own judgement, so thought I would leave admin'ing to younger folks. --Bduke (talk) 20:57, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello, you recently deleted my page about the company With Clarity. I was not finished with it, but can you explain why you think it was a misuse of the page, and why it reads like advertising? Any comments for improvement would be highly appreciated.
Also, can I please retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement? I would like another chance at this.
Thank you! Tle017 (talk) 16:12, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

The article Frederick Swann you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Frederick Swann for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK.
