Vartan, may I borrow your uhmm Things and use it on my talk pages? DenizTC 04:13, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
I've removed your name from the list of users placed under editing supervision per kiril's clarification. I think a lot of administrators interpreted the remedy as being for incivility or edit warring, so I'm going to have to take a look at the whole list and see if there are any others that shouldn't be on there. Sorry for any inconvenience, Ryan Postlethwaite 11:22, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. (: Should be fine legally, since PD images are free to be cropped, resized, retouched, etc. Basically like the photographic equivalent of a park. Octane [improve me] 22.11.07 2349 (UTC)

Hi Vartan. I was contacted by user Bassenius who has recently been blocked through malicious sock Gransmister or something. Please help him to unblock. His latest participation was in the new article started by Verjakette was Nagorno Karabakh: Monuments of History, Architecture and Art. He is mistakenly identified as Verjakette's sockpuppet. Thanks in advance. Vishap 04:44, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Greetings VartanM, I too am a bit suspicious of the blocks of Bassenius and Verjakette. Depending on the results of your "checkuser", I would be happy to add my support for the removal of their blocks (along with diffs that I can provide) if you choose to take their case to the blocking admin. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 02:34, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
These things are always messy, and it is sad to see someone who had useful contributions tossed aside because they were using socks. Due to CU, Bassenius, Verjakette, Hnarakert, and Vishap are all likely to be the same person, which means actions like writing Nagorno Karabakh: Monuments of History, Architecture and Art from two accounts makes them very likely to play other games that undermine building an encyclopedia in a collaborative fashion.
As these are new users, and perhaps the biggest problem is they underestimated the seriousness of enwiki, I would like to offer these users a way to rejoin the ranks here sooner.
If any of these banned users want to create an account on the English Wikisource, and constructively contribute there, I will unblock them here on enwiki and place them on 1RR parole for a few months. I would need to request a CU on Wikisource to ensure that they have only operated a single account on English Wikisource, but I would hope that it would only be a formality. I would be keeping an eye on the user, and you could assist with any language barriers, and if I feel they have shown they can interact peacefully with others on wikisource, I think it is fair that we consider them a reformed user and allow them back into Wikipedia. Everyone deserves a second chance.
To give you some sort of idea of the thresholds, I am thinking that somewhere between 200 - 500 new pages would be sufficient to demonstrate that they are committed to our objectives. There are many websites that have already faithful digitised PD documents, so it is often only a matter of copying and pasting. The pages do not need to be "uncontroversial" - they only need to have appeared in English in hard copy that are no longer copyright, and the pages are accurately transcribed. As a result, these can be documents about Armenia that are of relevance to the development of topics here on Wikipedia. This gives the banned users an opportunity to have a user/talk page on Wikisource as a way to interact with the Wikipedia folk, and usefully contribute by helping bring harder to access sources online.
Do you think an opportunity such as this would be of interest to any of the current banned users? John Vandenberg (talk) 04:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi Vartan. Many thanks for the link. It seems to be very useful. Cheers,--KoberTalk 18:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi Vartan. Could you please provide the full context of the quote about the city? From what you provided it is not clear that the quote relates to the city of Shemakhi. You may even wish to upload the text to wikisource to make it accessible to everyone, as it appears to be PD. Thanks. Grandmaster (talk) 10:24, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
On the page Karl Marx there is an error, at the beginning the article says he died on the 15th and in the death and legacy part it says he died on the 14th.

Hi. (No pun intended ...) Inch beses? Can you help me out? An anonymous editor made a change to Arabic language, claiming that the Arabic word "kitab" (book) is used in Armenian. Is this true? Thanks. Cbdorsett (talk) 12:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks VartanM, I will read it and get familiar, also will ignore Atabek and alike in the future. Steelmate (talk) 22:42, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. --Golbez (talk) 20:16, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
VartanM, could you please put Armenian script in Lacin, I was asked by Pocopocopocopoco to do it but I am not proficient in Armenian language enough. Thanks. Steelmate (talk) 03:27, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
VartanM, attacking Aseris as nation being bazaar IMHO is not the most productive method for stating Armenian point of view, as they lead nowhere... please refer to a specific person (Atabek?), and even then refer to what the person did instead of what kind of person he is. I know I made same mistakes by referring to Atabek as illogical person, I should have said Atabek's behavior is that of an illogical person. Whoooph... but hey that way we can have more productive collaboration overall! Steelmate (talk) 19:29, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I see you are using {{PD-USGov}} on images that were taken outside of the US. I am going to retag them under {{PD-Old}} because we aren't certain if a US employee had taken them. You state the author is unknown. -- Cat chi? 22:57, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Hey Vartan, thanks very much for my first barnstar. Nagorno-Karabakh is a subject I'm very much interested in and I plan to work on some of these when I get around to it.
Question: Do you know anything (ie an official website) about an Armenian thinktank called Mitk Analytical Center? I've notice some of there writings when I read regnum.ru. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 18:49, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi, Vartan. I see you've been promoting Wikiproject:Karabakh via new templates. To be honest, I don't think this is a very good idea. I've looked at the history of that project and I don't think anyone ever got permission to create it in the first place, so it's likely to be dismantled soon anyway. The Armenia-Azerbaijan dispute has reached boiling-point on the Arbitration Enforcement page and this isn't helping matters. I can see a lot of admins are starting to have frayed nerves (and tomorrow morning they'll probably have bad hangovers!). I certainly don't want to see anyone banned over this issue. As I said to Armenian and Azeri editors on the Arbitration Enforcement page: "Come on, guys, please! This isn't helping anyone. Step back a bit before you all get yourselves banned at Armenia-Azerbaijan 3. Deciding to promote Wikiproject:Karabakh at this point in time is a seriously bad idea. Can't you see how much Armenian and Azeri users are trying admins' patience here with the eternal edit-warring over Nagorno-Karabakh? How about a moratorium on NK articles for at least a month. Surely there's plenty to work on elsewhere. Remember, Wikipedia is not a battleground". I'd really like to see Armenian and Azeri editors step away from NK for a while and do productive editing elsewhere. Otherwise we might have the sorry spectacle of 2008 starting with mass bans. I hope you can see my point. Happy New Year! --Folantin (talk) 19:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi - a stub template or category which you created has been speedily deleted as a re-creation of a previously deleted stub type. Please note that stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, but also please note that by longstanding precedent stub types of this nature are only normally created for internationally recognised independent regions or nationally recognised administrative regions (and the latter only when the number of stubs at the national level is large enough to warrant such a split), as disputed/aspirant regional templates often result in edit warring - something which is far more of a problem with templates and categories than it is with individual articles. Grutness...wha? 23:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Armenia-Azerbaijan 3. -- Cat chi? 18:05, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
This contained several assumptions of bad faith. Please note that per the terms of the civility supervision you have been placed under, such assumptions are not permitted and may be rewarded with brief blocks. This is a final warning. Here is a line from WP:AGF This guideline does not require that editors continue to assume good faith in the presence of evidence to the contrary. Someone felt so strong about this, that they made it appear in bright red. VartanM (talk) 22:08, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi VartanM, Happy New 2008 Year! Can you please confirm that italics can be used in Armenian writing and we can use italicised Armenian text in English wikipedia? Thanks, Steelmate (talk) 23:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Also you said:
Thanks, that is what I needed you to confirm!
P.S. by the way Golbez never said or meant "because they're latin script and we need to differentiate that from English", he said because they're latin script we can italisise it, vs. Armenian which is not latin therefore we cannot, which is something I disagree with him.
Steelmate (talk) 06:37, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
There is a phrase in a google book stating "The italic form is the original style of Armenian script" on page 24. Didn't you find it? What exactly did you find stating opposite there? Steelmate (talk) 08:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok thanks, I did provide him this link as well. Will wait for his response. Steelmate (talk) 08:14, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know. After seeing Grandmaster's post, I contacted Ehud Lesar. He said he didn't know, and he asked me to suggest ways to confirm the identity. Later in his reply, he suggested that we could have a webcam chat, and he would edit a page on Wikipedia at the same time to confirm his identity. Nishkid64 (talk) 06:00, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
