The Waihemo / Shag River is located in Otago in the South Island of New Zealand. It rises in the Kakanui Range, flowing southeast for 75 km (47 mi), or
submarine system. These rivers include the Tokomairaro, Taieri, Waikouaiti, Waihemo / Shag, and even the Waitaki. The quartz and schist geology of much of
the east coast of the South Island. Further south, at the mouth of the Waihemo (Shag River), evidence suggests that at least 6,000 moa were slaughtered
radioed distress messages and was rescued by another Union Company ship, the Waihemo. On 4 February 1933, a day after leaving Newcastle, New South Wales, Wairuna
