The 2001–02 Divizia B was the 62nd season of the second tier of the Romanian football league system.

The format has been changed from two series of 18 teams to two series, each of them having 16 teams. At the end of the season, the winners of the series promoted to Divizia A and the last four places from both series relegated to Divizia C. A promotion play-off was played between the 13th and 14th-placed in the Divizia A and the runners-up of the Divizia B series.[1][2]

Notes:
  1. Metalul Plopeni were deducted 6 points and lost 0–3 the match against Rocar București (round 15), after an attempt of match fixing.
  2. Tractorul Brașov withdrew at the end of the season and sell its place to Bucovina Suceava.
  3. Dinamo Poiana Câmpina were deducted 6 points for some irregularities.
  4. Rocar București were deducted 3 points and lost 0–3 the match against Metalul Plopeni (round 15), after an attempt of match fixing. Subsequently, Rocar withdrew during the winter break and forfeited all their matches from the second half of the season.[3]

Notes:
  1. Gaz Metan Mediaș were deducted 7 points for failing to reach the 25-point minimum in Divizia A last season.
  2. Olimpia Satu Mare was spared from relegation after it bought, at the end of the season, the place of newly promoted Metrom Brașov.
  3. Politehnica Timișoara were deducted 15 points (1 for each day of late transfer fees).

Divizia A play-off

The 13th and 14th-placed teams of the Divizia A faced the 2nd-placed teams of the Divizia B.
