The 2002–03 season was the 97th season in Atlético Madrid's history and their 66rd season in La Liga, the top division of Spanish football. It covers a period from 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2003. The season marked the breakthrough of Fernando Torres, the striker making his La Liga debut by the start of the season, scoring 13 league goals as a 18 years-old teenager.[1] Demetrio Albertini was a key signing before the season, the experienced Italian providing a solid display before departing for Lazio in his home country.
