The 2009 Austin Aztex season was the club’s inaugural campaign in the USL First Division, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. Based in Austin, Texas, the team was founded in 2008 by Phil Rawlins and played its home matches at Nelson Field. Coached by Adrian Heath, the Aztex finished the regular season in 10th place, missing out on the playoff positions. They also competed in the U.S. Open Cup, reaching the third round. Key players included striker Eddie Johnson, the team’s top league scorer, and midfielder Ryan McMahen, who led the squad in appearances. The season laid the foundation for the club’s progression in U.S. professional soccer.
