The 2024 season is Djurgårdens IF's 124th in existence, their 69th season in Allsvenskan and their 24th consecutive season in the league. In addition to the Allsvenskan, they competed in the 2023–24 and the 2024–25 editions of the Svenska Cupen, and entered the 2024–25 UEFA Conference League at the 2nd Qualifying Round after finishing as runners-up in the Svenska Cupen. On 21 October, after the defeat to Hammarby, Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf left their positions as head coaches. A day later, it was announced that Roberth Björknesjö would take over the team until the end of the season.[1][2] On 20 December, it was announced that Jani Honkavaara would be the new head coach of Djurgården.[3]
