Versions 6 and earlier were 32-bit only, running a 32-bit Linux kernel with the IRQ threading and rtirq-init patches activated by default. For computers with more than 4 GB of RAM, a PAE version was made available.

AV Linux 2016 and 2019 - released as 32-bit and 64-bit versions, with AV Linux 2019 being the last release of the 32-bit version.[2]

AV Linux MX Edition - The 32-bit XFCE4/Openbox and 64-bit XFCE4 versions are based on MX Linux 19.3 'Patito Feo'.[3]

AV Linux MX-21 "Consciousness" - released on February 14, 2022 based on MX-21 'Wildflower' and Debian 11 'Bullseye'. A totally new build vs the past respins.[4]

Originally made with remastersys, AV Linux 23.1 is built on top of the Debian-based distribution MX Linux.[5]

AV Linux 23.1 “Enlightened” version - the Window management is handled by the Enlightenment Desktop Environment.[1] Previous versions used the Xfce and LXDE desktop environments.[6]

AV Linux MX Edition 23.2 ISO update - fixing some bugs and improving things for new Users.[7]

AV Linux Base 23.5 - released as a 'stripped down' (smaller download) and more of a daily driver distribution. A version with new ideas and no commercial or demo software included.[8]

Reception

Perspective

yahoo!tech: "While AV Linux includes plenty of video tools (well look at these more in depth later on), various aspects of the project make it clear that it's meant more for audio production."[9]

Debugpoint.com: "AV Linux 23.1 “Enlightened” truly offers a robust, stable, and versatile platform for audio and video production. With its strategic integration of MX Linux elements, a performance-driven kernel, and a massive collection of multimedia tools, AV Linux remains a top choice"[10]

Linuxiac: "AV Linux 23.1 'Enlightened' is a significant update, including MX-23/Debian 12 base, Enlightenment 0.25.4, and PipeWire 1.0.0."[11]

Softpedia Linux: "As mentioned before, the distribution provides users with a large collection of video and audio production software, ranging from simple audio and video players to sophisticated video editors and CD rippers. Additionally, it comes with a patched Linux kernel package that allows for low-latency audio performance. The Live DVD can be used as-is or installed on a local disk drive."[12]

ZDNet: "For anyone who's looking to switch platforms and audio creation, such as music, podcasts, or even streaming games, is your primary goal, you could do a lot worse than use AV Linux MXe."[13]
