Synthesis

AcOBr can be synthesized by reacting AcBr₃ with a mixture of NH₃ and H₂O at 500 °C.^[3][4]

AcBr₃ + 2NH₃ + H₂O → AcOBr + 2NH₄Br

Physical properties

The compound forms white crystals of tetragonal system, space group P4/nmm.^[5]
