The Indian longtailed sand-eel[1] (Bascanichthys deraniyagalai) is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).[2] It was described by Ambat Gopalan Kutty Menon in 1961.[3] It is a marine, tropical eel which is known from the Pacific and Indian Ocean, including India and Sri Lanka. It inhabits river mouths and lagoons. Males can reach a maximum total length of 60 centimetres (24 in).[2]
