Buq Aqable (Arabic: بق اقبلي), also spelled Buqda, is a town in the central Hiiran region of Somalia and capital of the Buq Aqable District.[1] It is located 90 km (56 mi) south of Beledweyne and 50 km (31 mi) from Buloburde. It has a population of 50,000 people constantly living in it.[citation needed] The town was established in early 16th century by elders of Gaaljecel by Sheik Aden Esse .... clan and it is the base for the Gaaljecel clan leader (Ugaas).[citation needed]

History
In March 2014, Somali Armed Forces assisted by AMISOM troops captured the town from Al-Shabaab.[2] The offensive was part of an intensified military operation by the allied forces to remove the insurgent group from the remaining areas in southern Somalia under its control.[3] In September 2015, Al-Shabaab retakes the city from Somalia Armed Forces.[4]
On 4th June 2023, the Buq Aqable area was elevated to district level by the Hirshabelle cabinet.[1]
