After establishing its first-ever local women's championship in April 2023,[2] the Canadian Soccer Association formed its first official women's national futsal team under its governance in January 2025 and appointed Alexandre Da Rocha as the team's first-ever Head Coach.[3] Before establishing this FIFA-affiliated team, Canada had an AMF-affiliated women's futsal team that competed in the AMF Futsal World Cup.[4] The team achieved its best result as runners-up in the 2022 edition.[5]

Registered for the CONCACAF qualifying tournament for the inaugural 2025 FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup, the 2025 CONCACAF W Futsal Championship, Canada made its international debut during the competition. On 29 April 2025, Les Rouges played their first-ever international futsal match, narrowly losing 3–2 to Costa Rica. However, the team responded emphatically in their remaining group stage fixtures, crushing Honduras 6–0 and securing a crucial victory over rivals the United States to reach the semi-finals.

In the semi-final against Mexico, the Canadian side demonstrated remarkable composure and resilience. Trailing 3–0 at half-time, they staged a dramatic comeback to level the score at 4–4 by full-time, eventually prevailing in a penalty shootout to secure their first-ever qualification for a FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup, set to be held in the Philippines.[6]

With history on the line, Canada faced Panama in the final and delivered a commanding performance, winning 8–2 to become the inaugural champions of the competition.[7][8] The triumph was further highlighted by Canadian dominance in the tournament's individual awards.
