The chief secretary Sindh (Urdu: معتمدِ اعلٰی سندھ), also referred to as CS Sindh, is the bureaucratic chief and highest-ranking official of the Government of Sindh. The position holder is usually a Grade-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service. The position of chief secretary is equivalent to the rank of Federal Secretary.[1] The current chief secretary of Sindh is Syed Asif Hyder Shah, in office since March 2024.[2]
The prime minister directly appoints the chief secretary. The chief secretary also serves as the Cabinet Secretary of Sindh.[3][4][5][6]

The Chief Secretary Sindh is the highest-ranking civil servant of the province, appointed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. They serve as the administrative head of the Sindh government and the chief coordinator of the provincial bureaucracy. All provincial secretaries, divisional commissioners, and other senior administrative officers report to the Chief Secretary. The Chief Secretary reports directly to the Chief Minister, serving as the CM’s principal adviser. The CS also coordinates closely with the Sindh Cabinet, ensuring that its policy decisions are executed across departments.

The principal workplace of the chief secretary is located in Sindh Secretariat. The chief secretary is also the head of Sindh Secretariat, being its highest-ranking official. The chief secretary also has a secretariat called the chief secretary’s secretariat. The official residence of the chief secretary Sindh is the Chief Secretary House, also known as Hardley House, which also serves as a camp office.
