History
The school was originally started by the Coast Community College District as the distance learning college; it served the DL needs of Coast District residents, while Orange Coast College and Golden West College served many of the on-campus needs, with Coastline also using community facilities for site classes. Coastline has now evolved to include a distance learning program as well as on-campus classes available at its three mini-campus sites and other physical locations throughout the district.

Perspective
Coastline College's administration offices are located in a 40,000 sq.ft., administration facility located at 11460 Warner Avenue in Fountain Valley California, 92708.

Unlike most colleges, Coastline does not have a traditional campus. Instead, it offers instruction at various locations throughout the Coast Community College District. The college operates three primary learning centers in Newport Beach, Garden Grove, and Westminster, along with an administration building in Fountain Valley that houses essential student services, including enrollment, counseling, financial aid, military and veterans support, a food pantry, and mental health resources.
The Westminster location is formally known as the Le-Jao Center, named in recognition of the Le family (founders of Lee’s Sandwiches) and the Jao family (owners of the Asian Garden Mall and Bridgecreek Development), whose generous contributions helped grow the Coastline Foundation’s endowment.
In Fall 2012, Coastline College opened a new campus at 1515 Monrovia Avenue in Newport Beach. This modern facility hosts a range of general education courses and specialized programs, including the Paralegal Program; the Acquired Brain Injury, Intellectual Disabilities, and COAST Vocational programs; and offerings from the Special Programs, Art, and Digital Art departments. The site is also home to the John Stauffer Human Anatomy Suite, which opened in October 2023, providing state-of-the-art resources for anatomy instruction. In addition, the campus features a Veterans Resource Center and the Coastline Art Gallery, a public community space that showcases student and local artwork.
