Development

Border 2 was officially announced by T-Series and J.P. Dutta on 7 October 2024. Sunny Deol was announced as the lead actor, although the makers did not reveal the other characters in the film.[6]

Casting

Like Border (1997 film), Sunny Deol was cast as the lead actor. After the success of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol revealed

"J.P. Dutta wanted to make Border 2 with me in 2015, but at that time my Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 flopped and my other films were not doing well, so Dutta dropped the idea of making Border 2. I am also afraid because Those characters were really lovely. When I watch a film today, I want to see an extension of those characters. I feel like doing it, but the story should lend a justification to that character. So that those who come to watch the film and hope it'll be fun, they're not disappointed, like they're getting that fun in my film Gadar 2. After my Gadar 2 became a blockbuster, preparations started for Border 2 are underway and has been offered to me. I am ready to do it. "

Sunny Deol about Border 2 shelved in 2015.[7]

The makers of Border 2 first approached Ayushmann Khurrana for a supporting role. However, later it was reported that Ayushmann Khurrana will not be a part of it. Whether Ayushmann did not accept the role or the makers dropped him, there is no confirmation regarding this.[8]
