Wondershare Filmora (or simply Filmora) is a paid video editing application made by Wondershare. It can either be downloaded, or used fully online. Depending on what plan the user purchases, they may continue to receive free updates forever, or only have access to whatever the latest version was at time of purchase. Its most recent release was version 14 in late 2024. While anyone can fully download and install Filmora, it is proprietary software, and will not allow the user to export videos without an internet connection for proof of purchase.

History

Wondershare Filmora was released by Wondershare in 2015. [1]It was originally a desktop video editing software available for macOS and Windows, and later expanded to Android and iOS apps.

Filmora 14 was released in late 2024. This version mostly updated its AI features.[2][3]

Reception

Reviews of Wondershare Filmora typically believe it to be easy to use, but lacking in more advanced features.[2] According to Michael Muchmore from PCMag, Wondershare Filmora is "a fast and easy way to make splashy videos" but does not provide as much control as other video editors.[4] A review by Hans India shared this opinion, believing it to be a balance between simplicity and capability.[5]

A review of version 14 by MovieMakers believed its updated AI features made it stand out.[6]

Shorty Awards reports that Filmora  as a leader in the field of video editing by G2 Crowd in its 2021 Winter Report.
