Frank Nimsgern

Frank Nimsgern (born 4 May 1969) is a German composer, producer, artistic director, lecturer, guitarist, and pianist. He is the son of the opera singer Siegmund Nimsgern.

Career

Nimsgern was born in Saarbrücken on 4 May 1969, the son of opera singer and Grammy Award winner Siegmund Nimsgern. He initially played jazz/rock guitar and performed and lectured worldwide with his own band on behalf of the Goethe-Institut.^[1] He also worked as a session musician. He was the musical director for Chaka Khan from 1994 to 1996.^[2] Since 1998, he has worked several times as a musical director/supervisor, including for the Classic Open Air Berlin and the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin.^[1]

His Paradise of Pain and SnoWhite (Oper Bonn) were broadcast as musical films by ARD.^[1] He composed the theme song "Can You See the Light" for Siegfried & Roy's Daily Show in Las Vegas, and has composed the film music for ten episodes of Tatort since 2000.^[3] He also wrote the TUI Cruises anthem "Mein Schiff" (My Ship) for Anna Netrebko.^[4] With Daniel Call, Nimsgern created the musical Der Ring, based on Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. It premiered in Bonn in 2007.^[5]

In 2021, Nimsgern produced and composed the album 80 plus, featuring Dieter Hallervorden, which reached the top 50 of the German album charts shortly after its release.^[6] In June 2022, his musical adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest premiered at the Luisenburg.^[7]

On April 12, 2024, Nimsgren's musical Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) had its world premiere at the Deutsches Theater in Munich. It also ran from May to October 2024 at the Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein [de] and was performed at the Metronom Theater in Oberhausen in January 2025.^[8] Musicalradio.de voted the work Album of the Year.^[9]
